"Why should anything exist...rather than nothing?" (Liebnitz)
Yes, I believe in God. Chemistry, physics, and biology all point toward an Intelligence which has somehow monkeyed with the odds in our universe.
And that "sum over histories" (many universes--a multiverse)? It's a cop-out to avoid the Real Question. Physicists, in their personal conversation and private correspondence, often admit to this.
Sauron
I dont' have much faith in someone who doesn't know the difference between the words "why" and "how".
The universe is 6000 years old. As a saved Christian, I believe the Bible.
You need to talk to the Mormons about the “Impossible Gospel”. Google that and print it out ask them about it.
2 Nephi 25:23 ask them “have you done all you can do for Mormon grace”, if not why?
Alma 11:37 “have you stopped sinning because you can’t be saved in your sins and no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven”? What are you doing to get clean? See Eph. 2 “Not of works”
Moroni 10:32 You have to be perfect, ask “are you perfect” because they don’t get the grace of 2 Nephi 25:23 until they meet “all of the requirements”!
Their eternity is ridding on “if” and “then” of 2 Nephi 25:23!
Genesis is the Word of God. Are you not a Christian?
One need only read and understand the Bible to understand that the universe is 6000 years old.
Also, can you prove that the earth is not the center of the universe?
No, I’m a saved Christian.
“So we know the universe exists because of this one percent skew, but why is there a one percent skew?”
Yep, that’s the question. It is very puzzling to me that there should be any asymmetry at all between matter and anti-matter, but if it were not so, we wouldn’t be here to discuss it.
It’s pretty clear that God had a direct hand in writing scripture. The only reason to demean it as a “work of man” is if you intend to not recognize its authority.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Peter 1:21
For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
The timeline of the creation story is not to be taken literally. All the evidence we need is found all around us. Heck, you just need to look up at the night sky.
Well, unless you think those lights are pin pricks in a dark veil.
“All Scripture is God-breathed”
That’s all you need to know.
Im still gonna stay with the anti matter people
“Scientists discover explanation for why the Universe exists”
Title was written by an atheist obviously.
Headline should read “Scientists discover explanation for why the Universe didn’t self-destruct after creation”
If the story really contained the explanation for why the Universe exists, we wouldn’t have atheists anymore.
Something from nothing, my favorite exercise that irritates the hell out of these atheist scientists is to ask “And where did that come from?”
Bottom line, that natural default state of the universe is the NULL state, so what made the universe not null anymore? Explain how you get something from nothing.
If it was that easy to get matter from energy, then why hasn’t it been demonstrated in a lab? Where did all that energy come from?
Oh there is a God, it is only the pompous that would believe there isn’t one.
Anyways, other than the headline, great story.
The timeline of the creation “story” is God-breathed Scripture. It is inerrant.
You joined FR to make fun of the Bible?
Make fun? What part of God-breathed scripture do you not understand?
By taking the Bible literary and trying to make the Bible a book of science rather a book of faith you are only acting as a lunatic or as someone who is on purpose doing so to give Christians a bad name.
Indeed!
I generally avoid debating religion in topics because it’s a black hole. You can’t, for instance, disagree with some of the tenets of Mormonism without offending good conservative Mormons, just as you can’t disagree with other Christians on the no-works-needed point without getting their dander up. I have no interest in fostering rifts between like-minded fiscal and political conservatives over something as personal as faith.
I do, however, take exception to others doing the opposite, implying stupidity, superiority, or anything else on their fellow conservatives for believing differently than they do. :)
It works to our opponents’ advantage if we descend into disagreement on the little things when the big things are so obvious and in front of us.
Christians know the Truth. I pray that one day you will be saved through Christ.
