Not a proper use of the flag, but protected by the 1st Amendment.

No. If you are in distress it's ok. Try calling "mayday" or "pan" on a radio frequency and explain to the people who arrive that you have an issue about politics.

I get that. But “distress” in the sense of flying the U.S. flag upside-down means “I am in immediate need of assistance.”

What? You need a Coast Guard helicopter? You need others to risk their lives for you?

Hey, like I said . . . if you want to fly the flag upside-down as a political statement, go right ahead. Just don’t tell me that you are allowed to do so because of the Flag Code.

He should be getting constant knocks on his door day and night requesting the nature of his distress until he takes it down and displays it properly.

If he is going to give a distress call, it needs to be answered by everybody possible.

You are correct. I believe it dishonors all who serve and have served Our Nation when Old Glory is flown upside down.

If one wants to show their concern that the Our Nation is in distress, fly Old Glory appropriately and fly the Gadsden Flag or First Navy Jack along side it in proper precedence.

For me, Old Glory has been folded into a triangle and set to nap in a closet lest she be sullied by what is going on under her sisters in various GovCenters.

My new Gadsden flag hasn’t arrived yet, but when it does it will fly in Old Glory’s place until I am no longer ashamed to bring her out.
