Good article. Jim Crow laws were the problem. The government was the problem. Let people be people and you will find them ready to live alongside each other. Pass legislation for Jim Crow, Affirmative Action, ACORN subsidies, etc. and you will find yourself living is a racially charged society.

1964 was a high water mark - Republicans had long fought for civil rights - and dems jumped on the bandwagon just soon enough to take credit for the movement. Remember, MLK was a Republican. Bull Conner was NOT.
