South Korea deploys troops in border zone to punish North Friday, May 28, 2010
By Iftikhar Gilani
PANMUNJEOM: An eerie tension is building up on the border between South and North Koreas as the South is amassing troops to take punitive action against the communist North.
The tension is also threatening future of Kaeseong, a joint industrial zone, which has often been touted as a model for Pakistan and India to build cooperative relationship along the Line of Control (LoC).
The tension runs high after a North Korean submarine torpedoed a 1,200-tonne South Korean ship, killing over 50 sailors.
It is almost a replica of Operation Parakaram that India launched immediately after December 13, 2001 attacks on the Indian parliament; South Korean military divisions are marching with tanks, artillery and an assortment of American weaponry towards borders alongside Seoul announcing retaliatory measures against its Northern peer. At the Itaewon US military base near Seoul, marines and commandos seem gearing up for an assault.
Railway stations and bus stations in South Korea are full with young soldiers in their battle dresses, kissing their girlfriends and bidding adieu to their families. Leaves have been cancelled and rumours are thick in Seoul that government is even drafting young men into the army in an emergency.

I don't have strong feelings whether the current SK mobilization orchestration will either heighten OR lessen current tensions.
OK I conceed that it will instead *marginally* escalate the level of REAL underlying tensions. It will, however substantially agitate the concerns of young people, Americans, and people generally unfamiliar with North Kore --sure.
Ford makes cars, Oompa Loompahs make chocolate, and L'il Kim makes....anxiety. He clocks in, makes others scared, and gets PAID for that.
Whadda we see here? Kim with his lunch pail, strolling to work --have no doubt, WE WILL PAY HIM. If you do doubt it, HE DOES NOT.
The horrifying truth is that Kim knows our the SK/USA gov'ts BETTER than WE know them.
Bailouts are more in fashion now than ever, and Kim is the consumate BailMeOuter, strolling in high fashion.
CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS = NEWSWORTHY, BUT NO SUSTAINED WAR.
The sick feeling dawning on you is the TRUTH.
I never liked Change.....
The Chinese are testing Obama’s weak points to see where the weak points are..... the Chinese can rein Kim Gone Ill in if they wanted to, besides, they got a lot to lose in a all out war with us....
70% of NK GDP goes to their military.
Good points. At the end of the day, he is just looking for a handhout. Why not? He always got them in the past through brinksmanship. Plus he has fully sized up Obama and he knows the US has the weakest president in its 240 year history, so why not shake us down and jack us around to get the goodies?
“Do you have any ideal how much destruction can be done,
flying 4 fighter jets, 1 mile apart, line abreast, at mach 1.5 or better, when crossing the border.”
I spent some time there at Kunsan which had 2 F16 squadrons. Once saw about 34 F16s on the runway lined up four abreast and took off in pairs. They did a mock airbase attack dropping flares. It was awe inspiring.
With that in mind we were once warned the NKs were massed at the border and to expect 75% causalities. They have extensive bio and chem weapons and the scuds to deliver it.
“The brainiacs in NK obviously have some type of diabolical plan cooked up.”
Yes, stir things up and hopefully get some money from the UN. There are probably also internal power struggles for who is going to replace Chia head.
That idea has a lot of merit! I like it.
I honestly think the Kim Gone Soon has lost it, and he’s no longer even marginally under China’s control. He actually believes his own propaganda (kind of like the obamanation).
He is quickly becoming as much of a problem for China as he is for South Korea. That is an insane mistake. A literally insane mistake.
When I was there it was fairly calm for the most part. One of the SK guards fell asleep at the ammo dump and was caught by his Lt. Didn’t even wake him up, just shot him right there.
I’d imagine things are a bit more tense now.
Kunsan AB ROK, June 88 thru July 89, I've been there and done that.
I've worked "elephant walks" and much, much more interesting real-world incidents.
Know you this, under Reagan, and Bush (both copies), whatever NPRK was capable of,
Kunsan could tripple and keep up the flow for 90 days non-stop.
Nukes are just a C-141 or C-17 ride away.
But under the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN CHIEF, who knows what HELL that FACSIST will put them thru.
“The Chicomms have already taken the measure of the man and found him wanting. “
The bowing to them probably didn’t help.
War will break out.
I would thinkthe ROK is calling up reserves. Drafting more men now is doubtful. How long to effectively train a new cohort?
