Sure but let’s put it in cars driven by Congress members and their staffers first just to try it out.

Saw this story on the news. Before they even mentioned the name of the congressman pushing this idea, I knew it had to be a big government democrat.

Ditto.

He ought to join with that congress woman who is pushing for a law to make cops shoot at the arms and legs only when faced with violent criminals.

Several devices are being tested, including skin sensors. Just by touching the steering wheel or gear shift, the vehicle could conceivably determine the driver’s blood-alcohol level.

Apparently these clowns have never heard of GLOVES!!!

“Several devices are being tested, including skin sensors. Just by touching the steering wheel or gear shift, the vehicle could conceivably determine the driver’s blood-alcohol level. Other ideas include installing sensors above the driver’s head or head rest that could test perspiration and breath samples.”

At the risk of sounding like a kook, it would be awfully easy to store said data for later use. The data loggers in OBD chips already keep track of engine performance and, in some specific cases (such as certain rental companies), keep track of driver behavior. It couldn’t be a big technical leap to have the aforementioned alcohol sensors programmed to feed the data into memory.

Good point. And most hand sanitizers are 60-70% ethyl alcohol.

A small percentage of the population engage in dangerous behavior so he wants all of us to pay the penalty. It’s a good thing we have politicians to save us from ourselves.

No! There is no reason something like this needs to be in all cars. Now if they want to develope something to install into cars who’s ownwers have been convicted of drunk driving that is fine but do not increase the price of cars for all when we all are not guilty.

Why doesn’t this congressman just go to the source and push for the reinstitution of prohibition?

The barren harpies at MADD would probably support him.

I bet lots of FReepers will just shrug and say “If you haven’t done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about.” FReepers are the biggest sheep around.

What about a marijuana sensor?

I bet most FReepers would cheer that one. I mean, most of them know for certain the government is just going to punish and harass people they don't like and never turn on them.
