President Obama will announce on Thursday a suspension of all applications for offshore oil drilling in the Arctic through the remainder of the year, an Alaska senator said late Wednesday.
The decision essentially extends an informal moratorium that Mr. Obama had set shortly after the BP accident on April 20 that led to the spewing of millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The new restrictions would suspend new offshore drilling permits in the Gulf of Mexico and off the North Slope Alaska until the cause of the accident is determined and stricter safety and environmental safeguards are imposed.
One major oil company, Shell Oil, had been hoping to begin a controversial exploratory drilling project this summer in the Arctic Ocean, which the new restrictions would put on hold.
Senator Mark Begich, Democrat of Alaska and a staunch supporter of drilling in the Arctic, said he was informed of the new restrictions by the Interior Department. Sen. Begich said he was frustrated because the decision will cause more delays and higher costs for domestic oil and gas production to meet the nations energy needs.
The Gulf of Mexico tragedy has highlighted the need for much stronger oversight and accountability of oil companies working offshore, but Shell has updated its plans at the administrations request and made significant investments to address the concerns raised by the Gulf spill, Senator Begich said in a statement. They make an effective case that we can safely explore for oil and gas this summer in the Arctic.(continued)

The more this crisis is taken advantage of, the more convinced I become that it was deliberately engineered in the first place.
Should be repeated large and loud.
His goal.
I think it's time to limit his Air Force One time...but he and the wife and kids are planning a vacation to Australia!
See the world at the expense of the American taxpayer.
This is why zerO let the Gulf spill get out of hand, to show the damage a spill can do and so he can shut down any future drilling to push his green agenda.
he said before he wanted gasoline prices at $5.00 a gallon
Well the banks are broke, the auto industry, the union pension funds, the teachers funds, working on shutting down the mining sector, shutting down our military, we now are not at war with Islam and now he is going to bankrupt the oil industry. The only positive thing he has done is bolster the union industry /s.
Read my lips “I am not a Muslim (Obama)”
nobama hates America. His thinking is similar to “someone has a car accident so ban all driving of cars.” What a freakin’ genius! I only can hope I live long enough to see historians paint this loser and feckless fool for what he is. nobama is a clueles, yet dangerous creep.
An excuse to advance his Marxist agenda. We need a conservative president and enough conservatives in congress to authorize drilling on U.S. soil. Any accidents on land are easily contained, and it would be much cheaper to drill.
The whole world is in flux. Rome fell, Eygpt fell, the Muslim dynasty fell, Chinese dynasties fell....
England fell to the United States back in the late 1700’s...
Europe has changed throughout the 20th Century...
If anything, history teaches us everything changes from climate to countries.
Trouble is coming and the reality is there is very little we can do to stop it. Freemen will not tolerate to live under tyranny. We do not know how quickly or how slowly life is going change, but change is coming.
Some really, really good examples juxtaposed to Obama’s intentional diminishment of the greatness of this country.
Go back to the townhouse explosion that wiped out a group of radical who were going to attack GI's.
Notice Ayers wasn't there?
Whatever formulas they were using were certainly not the safest*.
And consider Ayers' father was on the Board of General Dynamics?
Entrusted to develop the latest .mil weapons?
The absence of information on Obama's background?
Folks have this misconception the CIA is a bunch of super-patriots, when in reality they're just gub'er'mint workers putting in their time.
And frankly, about 90% of their work involves economic trends and reporting to...?

I know any net discussion of 'bombs' - 'formulas' triggers a ECHELON Flash ... so relax fellows, it just old [13David2] making a comment ;^)

Nothing more than an effort to boost his support among the envirowhackos.
The explosion wasn’t accidental.
I’d bet the farm on it. This all stinks to high heaven. A set up to shut down the American oil industry for good, and to enslave us to countries that ‘don’t like us very much’!
I think Americans are uniquely quite patient. We are very slow to anger. It has taken the ‘progressive left’ decades to get to this point...and yet we wait patiently for them to see the error of their ways, we wait for elections.
Americans are incredible in the regard. The men of courage will not react unless a substantial violence is put upon them and even then the response will be tempered.
The question is, “Is our patience our vice or virtue?”
I liken us to the enabler in an abusive or addictive situation. So to me this high-minded patience is our vice.
His reply was that he would probably be pulling one.
Cordially
Joe, I’m right there with you. Too many ‘coinkydinks’ in all this ‘kabuki’—I’d bet the farm that trouble in Alaska didn’t just ‘happen’ either!
Bring on the tin foil hats. We’re gonna need’em.
