Petraeus Orders US Spies To Prepare For Anti-Nuclear Strike On Iran
The Times ^ | May 26, 2010 | Giles Whittell and Michael Evans, Washington

Teams of American special forces have been authorised to conduct spying missions intended to pave the way for a military strike on Iran in case President Obama orders one, US government sources have confirmed.

The military units would penetrate Iranian territory to reconnoitre potential nuclear targets and make contact with friendly dissident groups, according to a secret directive written by General David Petraeus. The document's existence was disclosed for the first time yesterday.

It authorises an expansion in the use of US special forces throughout the Middle East, US officials said. However, it is the possibility of American troops operating covertly inside Iran that has the greatest potential to destabilise regional security.

“Secret directive?”

If this is for real, someone oughta be shot for reporting it.

If it’s a secret, why am I reading about it here?

Unless it’s psychops designed to misdirect the Iranians and cause them to waste resources needlessly to counter the threat.

Even my sons, 15 and 17, were immediately outraged when we heard about this last evening. They instantly grasped the significance and were talking about the penalty for treason.

It’s a wonder we have any spies left overseas with Obama in office... well, maybe the ones in Israel are safe.

Maybe our spies should consider reporting their intelligence through our news organizations as well... since that’s the way the administration is communicating with them... at least maybe SOMEONE will hear what they have to report.

If I am not mistaken this direction occurred during the previous administration.

Obama’s only responses to Iran’s nuclear program will be nasty letters, begging the UN to do something and eventually capitulating to a nuclear armed Iran.

“If this is for real, someone oughta be shot for reporting it.”

Sadly, Obama’s furious command to “Plug the damn hole” related to the oil spill rather than the gush of top secret information that has been leaked over the past 16 months. Gosh, maybe someone in the administration is giving Iran a “heads up” about U.S. intelligence of an imminent Israeli strike. Even more sadly, I cannot rule out this possibility, whereas with GWB, at least, the man had enough honor that such a flagrant betrayal of a decades-long ally would have been completely out-of-character behavior.

Does Obama have the balls to actually implement a “wag the dog” scenerio?

Naaa.... he will just fly over and bow to them some more! that will do the trick!

This is just Obama’s way of sabre rattling, so he doesn’t actually have to do anything.

No “secret” mission or “special teams” are going into or near Iran.

Obama will not disrespect his Muslim overloards.

another leaked “secret directive” about Obama bravely preparing to do something to our enemies which, we all know at the end of the day, he does not actually have the b@lls to do.

If true, the person who leaked this should be shot as a spy. Having said that, it looks like our SOF has decided to not rely on the CIA anymore and has returned to its OSS roots, and IMHO, that’s a good thing.

Well, I wondered about the veracity of the report. But if there is a leak and it’s not fixed, our fighting men and women in particular are screwed.

I presume that the reason that this is in the press is that it is PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE.

Besideswhich, it's pretty safe to presume that these activities have gone on for some long time -- although there are freepers who denigrate me for believing so and accuse me of relying upon Iranian sources --- the FACT is, that I believe that our CIA is competent and is doing more to protect us against terrorism and/or a nuclear Iran than a buncha keyboard armchair wannabe generals.

And the OBVIOUS historical fact is that Mossad has an extensive network throughout Iran.

I think our CIA was/is competent. But it is hamstrung by administration policies. Basically, this administration doesn’t seem to give a damm about our safety and the safety of our men and women fighting overseas. It would rather suck up to our enemies. So it is logical for many of us to assume the worst in a situation like this. We start to wonder if this administration is giving away secrets to our enemies. May sound illogical to some, but it sounds very possible to me.

Yeah, I agree that the EXECUTIVE BRANCH is currently capable of almost anything; however, that doesn't make me believe that the employees of the various security agencies have suddenly all run amok and despise Americans and don't care about the safety and security of all American citizens.
