The mothers of the three Americans caught trespassing Iranian territory have expressed gratitude for Tehran's hospitality during their stay in the country.

"We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Iranian government for allowing us to visit Shane, Sarah and Josh in Tehran. We greatly appreciate the kindness of the Iranian officials who did so much to help us during our all too brief stay," read a joint statement by Nora Shourd, Laura Fattal, and Cindy Hickey on Saturday.

Yeah, and they love kittens, swiss cheese, and pet rocks.

If these were your daughters stuck in Iran, you would be doing some major butt kissing as well.

Am I the only one that has trouble with the idea that 3 Americans just started out on a hike one day and ended up in Iran by mistake? I admit to not studying all the known or available facts, but the whole thing seems like a bit of a fairy tale to me.

So you wake up one day and say, “Hey, lets go to Iran.” And your friends say, “Oh that’s a great idea.” And so you march off to Iran.

Kind of reminds me of the gas station scene in Zoolander.

Nothing good comes from it... nothing!

These moms raised kids dumber than dirt.

Anyone hiking within a thousand miles (much less right near or maybe within) of the Iran border is too dumb to be worth any effort to free them.

The fact that anyone “hiking” anywhere in that part of the world is too stupid for words, the fact is if these were your kids, you’d do what you had to get them home safe.

They have to say what they said if they want their children back (and that may not be enough). I’m sure the Iranian Ministry of Information was happy to compose the press release for the moms.

You're absolutely right. I would behave in the same way if it were my child in this situation. One must keep in mind that these are extremely dangerous people whose behavior is not very far from that of the Dark Ages. Human life is of no consequence to them.

Yeah? Look at your spouse, your child, a brother or sister and tell us honestly if you’d leave them in an Iranian Prison and make no attempt to get them released.

Butt kissing only encourages the Iranian government and gives them a platform to look like The Good Guys. I’m not saying I know what I’d do, but I would hope that allowing Iran to use my children as a prop would not be one of them.

You misunderstand me. I meant the US should not waste resources trying to release these idjits. The moms raised them and are at least partially responsible for their current situation.

My kids wouldn't have been boneheaded enough to go hiking in Iraq or Iran to begin with.

There is something insane about the children of liberals. During Viet Nam I read of numerous hippies who hiked into North Viet Nam to “show solidarity” with their communist brothers. They were summarily executed as spies. In my opinion, anybody who goes hiking in known dangerous territory deserves what happens and the US should not allow itself to be held hostage as well. (As it is, I think Obambi had ignored the situation anyway.) My guess is that these kids were doing the modern day hippie-solidarity hike and found out the hard way that they are living in fantasy land.

We have national parks galore where the hiking is spectacular and safe. I see no reason for Americans, especially kids, to hike anywhere else.
