Video of Beggar Threatening County Commissioner for $2.00

Somethings are just too incredible to believe unless you see it for yourself. Well what we have here is Shelby County (TN) Commissioner Steve Mulroy being interviewed by a TV reporter. While the camera is rolling, a panhandler walks up to the commissioner, tells him to keep his mouth shut and to hand over $2.00.

After the commissioner refused to give him the money, the panhandler then demanded that the politician have two dollars for him every time he sees him. The whole incident is only funny after the fact because there was no physical violence. As you will see, the commissioner is obviously caught off guard by the whole incident. I must admit that Mulroy handled the whole extortion attempt quite admirably for a politician.

I don’t see what’s so different about this guy demanding two dollars, compared to the corrupt government extorting from me every Apr 15. At least this fine gentleman can’t garnish my wages.

"We've got a lot of people out there with substance abuse issues," says Brad Watkins with the Mid-South Peace & Justice Center. "Mental health issues."

Watkins considers many panhandling laws unfair.

"And we've got a judicial system that doesn't give these people the help they need," said Watkins.

Herein lies the problem, people so cowardly that they blame themselves for the natural inclinations of evil people.

Sometimes I am ashamed of the white male.

The commissioner said his heart goes out to people like that. Please tell me he’s a democrate.

I think I found his website.

Some juicier excerpts:

hored and passed a Living Wage ordinance and a Prevailing Wage ordinance to help workers earn a decent living, and an important Nondiscrimination resolution, the first of its kind in Tennessee.

Worked hard to promote racial and ethnic diversity in county government and contracting.

... ensuring funding for education, health care, poverty, and housing programs.

... Tuesday May 4 showed a decisive victory for Steve in the Democratic primary ...

Yea... smells like a Democrat. But in this man's defense:

... and voted to cut my own pay by 5%

Sounds like a scene from the movie “Better Off Dead”.

I want my two dollars!

Well, MY heart doesn't go out to him. People like that need to be eliminated from the society. And people who don't think so need to be eliminated from positions of public trust.

Don't feed the vermin. "Two dalla!" Must be considered minimum street wage these days. That's what a local bum demands. He spends his days at our neighborhood Starbucks seated at a nice shady table on the sidewalk, sipping his latte' and surfing the web with his laptop. "Only in America."

EXTORTION?

No. Since the guy didn't threaten to hurt him if he didn't pay, it's not extortion.

Our freedoms include the freedom to be a pain in the ass. I guess if that's a good or bad thing depends on whether or not you're being The Pain at the time. :-)

-----

All in all, the guy handled himself rather well. I could have done without the PC 'he needs more help' line, though.

I'd have had 3 words for this bum-

Get

a

JOB!

Guy looked just like Obama. You sure that wasn't Obama?

Sounded like him too, with all that "redistributive wealth" talk...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was Obama.

Both the news lady and the politician must live in
a fantasy world where unicorns crap skittles.

I invite them to come with me any day of the week
to lunch time in downtown Atlanta
and you can see scenes such as this
repeated over and over again.

“The commissioner said his heart goes out to people like that. Please tell me he’s a democrate.”

He’s gotta be a Democrat because the media did not excoriate him for not giving the guy the $2.

AS soon as he became aggressive I would have dropped him like a bad habit & I’m 60 yrs. old. Just typical “you owe me” attitude on display. I surely don’t mind helping someone who is down & out, but this display is deserving of an A$$ beating. The commisioner came off as a typical liberal deomcratic wimp. Touchy-feely & completely ready to surrender.

From the threatening demeanor of the guy, I would have told him firmly to stay away from me, and drawn on him if he came close.
