Charlie Crist starts off sounding analytical, but soon winds up in the realm of demagoguery when he offers his idea of entitlement reform to the Miami Herald editorial board this week. Saying that his understanding of the Social Security crisis is that it’s primarily an issue of low worker-to-beneficiary ratios, Crist says legalizing the 10-12 million illegals in the country would solve that problem. However, Crist not only gets the basics of the issue wrong and draws the wrong conclusion on the impact of adding millions more into the SocSec pipeline, he then confuses legal and illegal immigration:
Where to start with this? First, America has always welcomed immigrants, and still does — when they emigrate legally. That statue in the harbor doesn’t say, “Break our laws and climb over our fences,” after all. Somehow I doubt that Crist’s ancestors came in a truck packed with dozens of other illegals across the Rio Grande. We are a nation defined by laws we create and enforce ourselves, not defined by ethnicity. How difficult is it to ask people who come here to do so by obeying those laws?

Crist is term limited, no matter what dreck he puts forth.He would need about 90 % of the Independent vote, and this is not the way to go about getting it, IMO.
Attracting more suckers will certainly extend the life of any ponzi scheme.
But “save it”? No.
Crist and other like minded politicians just want to delay the inevitable crash until they are safely retired or deceased.

I think Bush though this too. The Problem is if they pay no other federal taxes like income taxes and get a tax credit, then this is meaningless. Then we give them free Obama-care once legalized. This reminds me of the CBO score for health reform.

Actually, we do better with them remaining illegal if you only factor SS into the equation. MANY illegals provide fake Social Security numbers. The employers still make the deductions and payments, but the workers don’t get the benefits. If yo provide blanket amnesty, they get benefits, and the ponzi scheme expands and becomes more unsustainable.

Yeah, just like the 1986 debacle which made everybody pay into SS which sounded just great, just think of all the money and then those people who didn’t/don’t need SS are receiving it because they paid in to it.
Their money did the trick for a few years but now that many are taking what is due, the bill is too high.
Build the fence. Enforce the current federal immigration laws. Stop abortion in this country.

Illegals also consume vast amounts of “free” services in the US. You are correct in so many ways and on many levels. The amount they put in is a fraction of what they consume on someone else’s back.

More workers will not save Social Security. Workers do not pay SS....EMPLOYERS PAY SS. Employers not only pay the paychecks...but also pay another additional amount to SS. Unless you are self-employed...workers do not pay SS....
In fact...adding more workers burdens Social Security more....because they will be expecting their SS retirement when they retire....meaning more SS money will have to be paid out.
Crist is just using what many RINOs use to push Illegal Alien Amnesty.
