Most Americans dont believe Mexico wants to stop the illegal flow of its citizens into this country and think Americas southern neighbor should be asked to compensate U.S. taxpayers for costs incurred by illegal immigration.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 13% of Adults think Mexico wants to stop illegal immigration. Sixty-seven percent (67%) say Mexico does not want to stop its citizens from entering the United States illegally. Another 20% are not sure.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon in his meeting today with President Obama complained that Arizonas new immigration law encourages discrimination. But Arizona officials say the new law is needed in part because illegal immigration is causing big public safety and financial problems for the state.
Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Americans think Mexico should be asked to compensate U.S. taxpayers to offset such costs. Twenty-four percent (24%) disagree and say Mexico should not be asked for compensation. Seventeen percent (17%) are not sure.
As the United States wrestles with a future of historic-level deficits, 67% of voters nationwide say illegal immigrants are a significant strain on the U.S. budget.
Most voters (55%) now favor passage of an immigration law like Arizonas in their own state. When asked specifically about the chief provision of the Arizona law, support is even higher. Sixty-nine percent (69%) believe a police officer should be required to check the immigration status of anyone stopped for a traffic violation or violation of some other law if he suspects the person might be an illegal immigrant.

Ought to be more like 100%.
I’m just surprised that 33% can’t acknowledge that Mexico encourages this invasion. The evil leading the blind, it is.
We need to send ALL illegals back to their respective craphole countries, secure the border and SHOOT anyone who tries to enter our country illegally.
Buy a few beach condos, go back and forth when I feel like it, do a lttle seasonal work along the playas, use a few drug dealers for target practice??
Well...duh
I wonder if the other 33% are lying about what they know or if they are too stupid/ignorant to realize it. There are a lot of flat out stupid people running around.
The other 33% **are** illegal aliens.
Corruption in Mexico has destroyed the country.
My Grandparents would spend 3 or 4 months a year living down there, but stopped in 1963, due to the corruption.
Until we close the border, they will have no incentive to fix their problems.
According to news reporters, the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C. is preparing friend-of-the court briefs to support lawsuits challenging Arizonas new law. Only 12% of Americans believe it is appropriate for a foreign country to help challenge U.S. laws in U.S. courts. Seventy-two percent (72%) say it is not appropriate, and again 17% are undecided.
Twenty-seven percent (27%) view Mexico as an ally of the United States, while 14% describe it as an enemy. Fifty-three percent (53%) view Mexico as somewhere in between the two. These findings are consistent with a survey last August but are up from earlier last year when the Mexican government was seeking restrictions on U.S. gun sales it argued were linked to growing drug-related violence.
The majority of Republicans, Democrats and adults not affiliated with either party feel that the Mexican government does not want to stop illegal immigration and that Mexico should be asked to compensate U.S.taxpayers for costs associated with illegal immigration. But Republicans and unaffiliateds believe both things much more strongly than Democrats.
Members of the presidents party are also more inclined to view Mexico as an ally than are Republicans and unaffiliated adults.
Most voters continue to say as they have for years that gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers. But most also favor a welcoming immigration policy that excludes only national security threats, criminals and those who would come here to live off our welfare system.
33% are that clueless, or that dishonest, or that politically correct?
Sounds like the Dim party base and some RINOs.
POTUS & Congress have no clue!!!
Calderon understands the economics of illegal immigration and is determined to protect the illegal revenue at all costs.
Money flows from Mexican workers in the United States to Mexico are approaching $20 billion a year.

Nor work. Nor have a gun.
Have a nice day.
You are absolutely correct. Mexico has a caste social and economic system. And, the way the powerful and privileged retain power is by using the U.S. as an outlet for the young and restless who would otherwise turn their energy and dissatisfaction inward. So, the incentive for those in power is to maintain the status quo not change it.
From the poll:
“The Obama administration announced in March that it was halting funding of the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, but 59% of Americans believe the United States should continue to build that fence."
0bama don't want to stop no illegal immigration. He wants illegal immigrant votes in 2012.
The democrats of today (33%) have to be the most ignorant dumbasses in history.
The more the average citizen turns against illegal immigration, the more the Annointed Ones want to coddle illegal immigrants. One, as a f—k you to the average citizen whom they obviously hate and despise, AND to rub our noses in our powerlessness to “do anything” about the illegal immigration crisis ; and two, they are so used to ASSuming that the average citizen is a racistsexistxenophobic neanderthal that they have a kneejerk response which makes them love what we loathe and to loathe what we love. Remember the she-columnist after 9-11 who wrote of how she was “troubled” by all the flags, less than 2 weeks after the atrocity? That’s their mind set : They are like Pavlov’s dogs in the way they react to the average American’s opinions and values. So the more WE turn against illegal immigration, the more they will see this as a need for a “teaching moment” and as a reason to support blanket amnesty. Or so I fear. The beasts currently in DC are NOT like any other politicians and bureaucrats in my experience : They seem to delight in voting against the express and overwhelming feelings of the American people AND against the Constitution.
I guess 33% are either intentionally ignoring the issue or are monumentally stupid.
The Mexicans don’t have any intention to stop it because they don’t think it’s illegal. We have to all understand they’re seeing this whole issue through a completely different prism.
To Mexico, it’s an expansionist opportunity to exploit a rapidly weakening America. The objective is to pack the demographic makeup so much that someday we in “el Norte” will have no choice but to acquiesce to their demands to cede our territory to them, starting (but in no way ending) with the Southwest.
Bingo!
However, we, the people, propose to put a lot of them out of business in November.
