Cut the Golden Goosey State out of the power grid. Go for it.
Text of letter from Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa after Los Angeles City Council approved boycott of Arizona because of its new immigration law:
Dear Mayor Villaraigosa,
I was dismayed to learn that the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based companies a vote you strongly supported to show opposition to SB 1070 (Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act).
You explained your support of the boycott as follows: While we recognize that as neighbors, we share resources and ties with the State of Arizona that may be difficult to sever, our goal is not to hurt the local economy of Los Angeles, but to impact the economy of Arizona. Our intent is to use our dollars or the withholding of our dollars to send a message. (emphasis added)
I received your message; please receive mine. As a state-wide elected member of the Arizona Corporation Commission overseeing Arizonas electric and water utilities, I too am keenly aware of the resources and ties we share with the City of Los Angeles. In fact, approximately twenty-five percent of the electricity consumed in Los Angeles is generated by power plants in Arizona.
If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation. I am confident that Arizonas utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands. If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizonas economy.
People of goodwill can disagree over the merits of SB 1070. A state-wide economic boycott of Arizona is not a message sent in goodwill.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Gary Pierce
LA would probably suffer from a drug cutoff more! lol
I assume that is a recommendation...?
The guy didn't threaten to pull the plug on LA. He wrote a letter to the mayor, challenging him to have a real boycott and give up the options on Arizona created electrical power.
Right now the LA boycott is like a Jesse Jackson hunger strike, where he promises not to eat while a camera is in the room.
The fun begins.
Someone pass me the popcorn.
Now THAT’S what I call a SMACKDOWN! He totally b*tch-slapped that macaca Villaraigosa.
LOL! I love it. Play hardball with those LA hypocrites, Commissioner Pierce.
Turn off the water too. Of course the states have “Contracts” and they are not so easily rescinded. This is just showboating by the drug addicted losers on the LA board.
Before this is over they will be throwing pies at each other on the border! lol
LOL
This could get good. L.A. boycotting AZ and AZ boycotting L.A. The electricity is certainly a big bat on the AZ side, but L.A. has the trump card. If L.A. cuts LAX off to AZ planes, it’s over.
I stand corrected: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/05/19/arizona-official-threatens-cut-los-angeles-power-payback-boycott/
I live in L.A. but my morals are stronger than my desire for cheap electricity.
The LACC is a bunch of morons who should stick to business and not mess with other jurisdictions’ decisions on how they manage their own affairs.
ah...I wasn’t sure what you meant in post #5.
“I live in L.A. but my morals are stronger than my desire for cheap electricity.”
a true minority that deserves protection.
>>a true minority that deserves protection.<<
They are driving me out — I was going to go to TX but AZ is sorta calling... :)
The company sells items that would fit in well with my theme so I called and told the sales clerk that I would be placing an order.
Also told him that I was delighted to be doing business in AZ and supported their stand on immigration.
He as SO grateful.
A good day!
2 good states that actually have leaders interested in protecting their states and the US Constitution.
