Mark Critz, the aide to the late Congressman John Murtha, won a special election Tuesday to fill the remainder of his term which ends Jan. 3.
Critz, a Democrat, easily beat Republican Tim Burns, who state GOP Chairman Rob Gleason had tapped over Bill Russell, the retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who ran against Murtha in 2008.

What a shame. Republicans got their hopes up since some polls showed Burns ahead. Now this looks like a big disaster. If there really were a major GOP wave coming they should have won here. I suspect now they will not take a House majority in Nov. If they gain 30 or so that will be great but it’s not enough.
Man I like Russell but even if he faced Critz there’s way too many dumb sheets Rat voters in PA-12. Buncha brickheads deserve the dreck they elect.

I did a little googling - and Burns was thought to be a party insider and a RINO. RINOs poison the well. Better off with a real Democrat - it’s easier for the whip to count the votes.

This district looks to be about as takeable as SaN Fran Nancy’s district - some are just beyond hope - so don’t give up fighting for the OTHER districts that WE CAN TAKE!

Makes Brown’s victory in MA seem like more of a fluke.
This is a Demo district but McCain won there. All the more reason we should have won it. Some say Clinton helped because he is popular there. If that is the case then the nation still is in big trouble.
The Dem here ran as a conservative, it sounds like. Yet in so many other districts these people run as moderates and deceive the voters and end up siding with Pelosi anyway. If the 12th district couldn’t see this then they get what they deserve. Too bad they and the rest of the people who vote Dem will drag all of us down with them.
Satan himself could have been running as a democrat for office in Murtha’s district, and the idiots would still vote democrat.
Talk about a hopeless bunch of people.
Even though this stupid district has voted for Murtha since Washington was in office, this is the kind of district he Rs need to win come November. Hopefully they will learn something from this and get their act together.
You can’t win every race with “0bama is a Socialist and Pelosi sucks”. You gotta give people something to vote FOR, with ideas and inspiration.
Party leaders are supposed to keep things like that from happening in elections they want to win.
Gleason should have either stepped out of the way and let Russell win -- or hang himself.
Or he should have found a way to make Russell happy -- and this does not necessarily mean getting Russell a political job or doing anything quasi-dirty -- so he would get behind Burns 100 percent.
Watch out who is counting the votes both Dem and RINOS.

I wouldn’t read too much into this. I never expected Burns to win. This district was owned by Murtha. I was in Pittsburgh the week of his funeral and you would have thought it was Rome the day the Pope died. These people came to his funeral...to stand out in the snow, by the busloads. Conservatives will always be disappointed if they pin their hopes on nitwit PA dem voters.
