The Democrats have always had the discipline not to turn on their own. They are far to petty and ruthless to do this solely out of compassion. This is rule that must be externally enforced, like a mafia code. If they really are turning on Blumenthal, it must be due to two factors. First, all the major Democrats had to agree. Second, this has to be part of some major play. My guess is that they are taking out their own wounded candidate early so as to have a better chance in the general election. They must all be sincerely worried about their chances of holding on to a majority in the Senate this Fall.

So does Blumenthal have a Democrat challenger in the primary? Is that who the NYT is trying to help?

Blumenthal from North Eastern Establishment; so imagine his getting the equivalent of the 'dead fish' from the Chicago Syndicate was not difficult. That Blumenthal is friend to both Clinton's; probably made this even a somewhat joyous act.
