Research links pesticides with ADHD in children

CHICAGO (AP) - CHICAGO (AP) — A new analysis of U.S. health data links children's attention-deficit disorder with exposure to common pesticides used on fruits and vegetables.

While the study couldn't prove that pesticides used in agriculture contribute to childhood learning problems, experts said the research is persuasive.

"I would take it quite seriously," said Virginia Rauh of Columbia University, who has studied prenatal exposure to pesticides and wasn't involved in the new study.

Here we go! The next big scare! Ban pesticides, ruin crops and the economy even further. Then in 20 years someone will go "OOOPPS, that wasn't a cause".

I think we should ban ADHD. Medical malpractice.

The best indicator as to whether or not a kid will have ADHD is whether or not their parents practice biblical correction.

I agree with that to a point. Some kids don’t have ADHD, they’re just kids. Wiggly, active kids.

Befor we dismiss this out of hand, remember there was a time we saw no harm in lead based paints, esbestos, or ddt.

I agree a GREAT deal of the problem is lack of parents’ ‘hands-on’ rearing of the children. But if you spend any time around these kids, you’ll soon believe there’s something more.

DDT, Chlordane, Chlorpyrophos, Diazinon, Myrex, and many other pesticides have been banned for years (some for forty years) and yet we still have many cases of ADHD. I think they haven't a clue what the primary cause is and are doing the PC thing to blame the same for publicity.

The "research" leaves a little to be desired.

The new findings are based on one-time urine samples in 1,139 children and interviews with their parents to determine which children had ADHD.

The study dealt with one common type of pesticide called organophosphates. Levels of six pesticide compounds were measured. For the most frequent compound detected, 20 percent of the children with above-average levels had ADHD. In children with no detectable amount in their urine, 10 percent had ADHD.

I believe it is overprescribed to sell pills but I also believe that it is real in some cases.

ADHD may exist but it is also a political tool to control.

Btw, there's still nothing wrong with DDT. That whole thing was a political load of BS.

Population control advocates blamed DDT for increasing third world population. In the 1960s, World Health Organization authorities believed there was no alternative to the overpopulation problem but to assure than up to 40 percent of the children in poor nations would die of malaria. As an official of the Agency for International Development stated, "Rather dead than alive and riotously reproducing."

There’s an article that Malcolm Gladwell did for the New Yorker a couple of years ago that basically showed that the DDT scare was a complete lie. He points out that the inventor of DDT regularly ate chunks of it and fed it to his kids to prove its safety. And Gladwell is no conservative.

Asbestosis is an invention of trial lawyers. You’d literally have to work in an asbestos mine for 30 years to get it, and even then you might well be symptom-free. Remediation in homes and businesses is a make-work industry meant to soak uneducated people.

this could be part of the explanation of why so many kids have problems now that people think weren’t around in the good ol’ days when kids’ attention was gained by spanking

Clinical ADHD is organic brain damage, and pesticides on produce are compounds that could cause it or trigger it- among other chemicals our society has become doused in

I am not one bit suprized, our GMO Pharming, which includes pesiticides, in fact, plants are now in fact their own pesticides such that when bugs eat them they die ... “Big business no matter what” republicans will of course deny ... But I know better

Let's see who the "players" are.

said Virginia Rauh of Columbia University, who has studied prenatal exposure to pesticides and wasn't involved in the new study.

Nope. Not involved.

lead author Maryse Bouchard of the University of Montreal.

Checking on her yields: Department of Environmental Health. And according to her bio, she supports conclusions by the World Health Organization. Lefty.

said Dr. Lynn Goldman of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a former EPA administrator.

Big government tool. Lefty.

said Margaret Reeves, senior scientist with the Pesticide Action Network

Agenda driven.

Apparently this is a leftists project. Oh and there's this gem: The exact causes behind the children's reported ADHD though are unclear. Any number of factors could have caused the symptoms and the link with pesticides could be by chance.

I don't buy agenda driven pap.

Well, that on it’s face seems to make sense, but those who support GMP Pharming at all costs aren’t going to look into this, just who do you think is going to investigate such things, mostly those not on the dole of those potentially at risk. I don’t buy because it’s a left wing group the info is all bad, the environmental movement did do a lot to clean up america and stop out of control pollution, the problem is they didn’t know where to stop. The US is much, much cleaner than it was in 1970, the rivers in our area are so much cleaner and so forth.

I don’t think Monsanto or ADM are going to be investigating such things to you?

It’s about control, not truth. NONE of them are truthful. We need to watch out for ourselves. And that is the way it has always been throughout time.
