US President Barack Obama is asking auto-loving Americans to use public transportation more as the fact that Indians and Chinese are buying more cars will push up oil prices.
"Because one of the things, obviously, that we have to recognise is, is that no matter what we do, oil prices are going to be going up over the long term," he said Thursday at a rally in Buffalo, New York.
"I mean, year to year, they may vary. Sometimes it's four bucks a gallon at the pump, sometimes it drops back down to two-and-a-half," he said. "The mass transit system would be good for the environment too."
The new grouse about Indians pushing up gas prices comes after his much publicised rhetoric in May last year when he announced that US companies that outsource jobs from "Buffalo to Bangalore" will lose their tax incentives.
"You're not always clear what's going on, but the long-term trend is just because countries like China - they're starting to buy cars and countries like India are starting to buy cars, and so the demand on petroleum and fossil fuels are going to be greater and greater," Obama said.
"We've got to get a first-class transit system," he told auto-loving Americans, who have 950 cars per thousand people as against 8.5 per thousand for Indians.
"We don't have one right now. We used to be at the top. Now you've got China - they're building multiple high-speed rail lines all across the country, leaving us behind," Obama said. "But it's not just transit. It's our ports, our airports, our sewer systems, our water systems."
"We're going to figure out how do we make those kinds of long-term investments, but do so in a way that doesn't increase our deficit, and that's going to be a challenge, but I think it's going to be a priority," the President said.
Economists might have used "all kinds of fancy formulae and mathematical equations" to declare recession has ended," Obama said. "But if you're still looking for a job out there, it's still a recession. If you can't pay your bills or your mortgage, it's still a recession."
what a dumb ass.....
DRILL HERE...DRILL NOW!!!!!!!!
Public transportation is useful for only a small segment in a few select areas. By definition it CANNOT serve everyone unless we all live in Soviet-style housing.
Get our own oil. We have plenty to keep us going for over a hundred years. Then it doesn’t matter how many cars India and China buy.
What if you live in the rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio ?
It’s like he’s never heard of “supply and demand”.
Maybe he should try public transportation as well. I would think that his carbon footprint is far worse than 100,000 people a year driving every day!
Of course I could be over exaggerating or I could be under exaggerating? But, he jumps on his plane way too much and his wife jumps on another? The man is a jerk!
The kiss of death. Recent history shows with utter clarity that if Obamalamadingdong says we need it what we actually need is exactly the opposite.
I thought you were in favor of mass transit? You trying to kill your own cause?
Well, some people have to make sacrafices. What are you a capitalist? This is for the collective; the greater good!
India & China feel the same way, only they are more flexible, in a heartbeat they could go Brazil.
Okay Barry, lead by example. You first on the public transpo thingy.
So, he’s blaming his problems on the Native Americans...
;)
>Okay Barry, lead by example. You first on the public transpo thingy.
“But, but, but I’M THE PRESIDENT!” Obama whined, “Public transportation doesn’t apply to me!”
We need to tighten up so that China and India can get more cars?
India only has 8.5 cars per thousand people? Who cares?
Since when has this country ever been compared to these two?
Instead of comparing how many cars other countries have, we should be switching over to natural gas. Burns clean and doesn’t take much to convert over to.
And it’s ours!
“I mean, year to year, they may vary. Sometimes it’s four bucks a gallon at the pump, sometimes it drops back down to two-and-a-half,” he said.
Yeah...sometimes that happens in free markets.
Get our own oil. We have plenty to keep us going for over a hundred years.
No we don't.
This moron really, REALLY needs to go screw himself.
He is determined to bash India. What an evil evil man.
Seeking always to divide rather than unite.
And they bashed President constantly for being a divider.
