Pirates released after assault operation near Gulf of Aden apparently perished

The Somali pirates who were captured in an assault operation after hijacking a Russian tanker near the Gulf of Aden and then released by Russian military officials have not reached the coast and have apparently perished, a top-ranking source in Russia's Defense Ministry told journalists on Tuesday.

Russia's Moscow University tanker was hijacked last week near the Gulf of Aden. Ten pirates were captured and one was killed in the assault operation.

The captured pirates were initially to be sent to Moscow for prosecution, but Russian military officials then made the decision to release them, citing the absence of a legal base to carry out prosecution procedures against pirates.

The pirate's boat reportedly disappeared from radars an hour after they had been released by the Russian military.

The Russians know what our own government is unwilling to acknowledge.

Wonder if the raft they were set to sea in had a leak...

The Ruskies put em back on their boat, and an hour or two later, the boat mysteriously sunk. How convenient. I am sure the Russians have no idea how that happened, lol.

LOL!

Those party-hearty Russkys prolly gave them enough vodka and perushky to have a good ol’ party on the sail back to shore.

btw, what are the odds that that bunny took a poop on the lap of the person holding it? [ans: number must contain three digits]

I would be suspicious about this, but usually, if the Russians want to off anyone they think needs it, they make little effort to hide it.

The pirate boat accidentally disappears from the Russian radar screen. So sad, really. I hate it when these unforseen accidents happen.

Bill Casey said that the Russians spoke Hezbollah's language. In the early 80’s when Western diplomats were routinely being kidnapped in Beirut, a Russian diplomat was briefly seized. Two of the kidnappers cousins were found dead with their penises sewed into their mouths and the Russian hostage was promptly freed. As Bill Casey said ...

And that, sir, is the moral of the story. Putin knows how to get his point across. Would that we were so forthright. Alas, we have a limpwristed femboy for a president, not a reincarnation of Ivan the Terrible nor a cowboy, and no one is afraid of limpwristed femboys.

This is a bunch so stupid that they tried to hijack a U.S. Navy ship.

They'll stumble their way into hijacking another one, but your main point is correct: If we'd make this type of thing SOP, it'd put this problem to an end.

This is simply a matter of a bit of oversight on part of the Russians. Anybody could have forgotten to completely provision the raft.

I'm sure they tried to be complete about it, you know, providing stuff for a voyage: pins, needles, broken glass, nails and screws... probably just forgot to include the raft repair kit, while they were packing up the boat for them. If they were rushing a bit, ie: russian', they might have forgotten to encase the pins/needles in their original boxes.

The problem for the pirates is that this flag was flying a Liberian flag. And the picture I've seen has the name of the ship on the bow in English. How are the pirates supposed to know which ships are Russian?

A gut-wrenching nightmare for the pirates.

I don’t understand how it’s come to this. In the 18th Century pirates were, by definition, without legal rights because they had withdrawn their allegiance to any flag. That meant that they could be shot on sight, and hanged if caught. How did we lose sight of that useful concept?
