It seems unlikely, frankly, that the liberals can form a working coalition with the Conservatives. Politically they are far closer to the Labour party, even though labour is now less powerful in Parliament. As a result, Labour is going to have to offer the Liberals an awful lot, and one thing they were always going to have to offer was Gordon Brown's resignation. This is the first step in this process.

The only problem is that even with the Liberals on board, Labour is going to struggle to form a majority. They will have to bring other parties into the coalition. Those parties will probably have to be the nationalists. Yes they will have to cut cards with the devil himself. How can you form a coalition "for the good of the country" by allying yourself with people who, fundamentally, want to destroy the country?
