Sports Illustrated Columnist Wants MLB Politicized Over Arizona Immigration Law
NewsBusters ^ | May 8, 2010 | P.J. Gladnick

We've already seen the NBA politicized over the new Arizona illegal immigration law in the form of the Phoenix Suns basketball players engaging in PC groupthink by wearing jerseys that say "Los Suns." However, this act of mixing politics with sports wasn't enough for Sports Illustrated columnist Melissa Segura. She also wants major league baseball to inappropriately engage in the politics of illegal immigration. She starts off her SI column by misrepresenting the Arizona law and it goes downhill from there:

All it took was three little letters: L-O-S. With that change to the front of their jerseys during the NBA playoffs this week, the Phoenix Suns became "Los Suns" and Arizona's basketball franchise let the world know where it stands on its state's controversial immigration law.

The law -- Arizona Senate Bill 1070 -- requires law enforcement in the state with a "reasonable suspicion" to question and arrest anyone who can't immediately prove they're in the country legally.

Hopefully the taxpayers of Arizona will tell “Los Suns” to go to Mexico for funding of their next arena.

Hmmmm. How can we change the mascot name “Diamondbacks” to more fully represent the illegal aliens?

At the moment in time the Phoenix Suns decided to become "politically correct" I stopped watching them.

In the event MLB decides to become "politically correct" I shall stop watching it as well.

I sincerely hope there are present on this site, sponsors of either the Suns or MLB and who read this.

You advertising dollars spent on the Suns no longer reach me; in the event MLB chooses to go this route, your dollars will be wasted there as well.

I wonder if they asked all the columnists with names like Nordstrom, Pulaski, Smith, Herz, O’Connor, etc. to write a column on this issue?

We need to seal the border, deport or imprison ALL illegals, and have an armed response to anyone trying to cross our border illegally.

“Segura”=sure

I would like a free subscription to SI because I can’t afford it, but I have a puppy who likes to read while moving his bowels.
If you don’t send it, well—then you’re a xenophobic, bigoted, racist, vigilante, nativist.

Sure, Melissa.

It’s too bad this PC nonsense has penetrated sports journalism so thoroughly. Maybe I was just naive and maybe sportswriters are even more liberal than the MSM body in general. But if MLB caves to this they’ve lost me. I gave up on the NBA a decade ago.

Freep this poll:

Should Major League Baseball move the 2011 All-Star Game out of Arizona if a significant number of players object to the site:

Yes - 50%

No - 50%

They gave the Hispanics a replacement for “the” on their uniforms. Its amazing that liberals are able to feed Bullsh*t to the masses and pretend they passed out caviar.
