DeMint endorses Paul in US Senate race in Ky.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint is at odds with Minority Floor Leader Mitch McConnell on who should be the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

The South Carolina Republican endorsed political outsider Rand Paul on Wednesday, a day after McConnell threw his support behind establishment candidate Trey Grayson.

DeMint, chairman of the Senate Conservatives Fund political action committee, called Paul "a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment."

Trey Grayson. I must say that, the minute I heard that name, it turned me off. Anyone named Trey Grayson by his parents has a lot of growing up to do. And, sure enough, the name fits. Typical privileged RINO.

I’m not fond of Paul Senior, but if DeMint and Palin both say Rand’s OK, he’s OK in my book.

His real name is actually: Charles Merwin Grayson III.

Saw this one coming...

I read an article just the other day that said McConnell and DeMint had an agreement not to officially endorse anyone in this contest.

I guess McConnell's so desperate to gain control of Kentucky's other senate vote that he broke the agreement.

That is my sentiment also, I will say that as I have watched this race I can see that Rand seems to be a very appealing campaigner and Trey Grayson seems to be a bullet that we were lucky to dodge.

Trey Grayson has fallen apart in recent months.

Trey Grayson-Palin not Qualified

Jim DeMint is one of the only Republicans in Congress to have earned a higher Fiscal Conservatism rating than Ron Paul in the National Taxpayers Union's most recent grading of the US Congress.

Granted, his rating was only 1% higher, but it's almost unheard-of for any Senators or Representatives to score a higher NTU Fiscal Conservatism rating than Ron Paul (I think that Senator Coburn and Representative Flake were the only others to do so in the most recent cycle).

I expect that DeMint wants a solid ally whom he can count on to vote "NO!" when the Trillion-dollar Deficits are coming down the pike and the squishy RINO "moderates" are selling their votes to the highest bidder. I hope that Rand Paul will be that ally.

He'd better be. It's perfectly okay for Ron Paul to be an independent Republican thorn-in-the-side of the GOP leadership, because Ron Paul has always won his own District without any endorsements from anyone (except for Ronald Reagan back in the early 80s); and 81% of the Republicans in his District support him in that niche. But Rand Paul needs to be more of a Team Player with the Palin/DeMint wing of the Republican Party, because HE OWES THEM!! Big Time!! Fortunately, I think he will be.

Pinging "Allegra" only because she wondered, on another thread, whether or not there were any Republicans-not-named-Paul on whom we could agree; I think I'd like to add Jim DeMint to that list (he seems like a great guy -- honestly, I just hadn't followed his career that closely until more recently). I've even heard some FReepers plugging him for POTUS in 2012; but for now it looks to me like DeMint is doing fine work in the Senate, and so I'll probably stick with the Moose-hunting Hockey Mom, for now.

Bill Johnson dropped out on March 10th. Why not replace him with Gurley Martin?

I’m very happy, with Trey Grayson’s help, to have changed my plans for my vote.

I will be voting for Rand Paul.

I grew up in Ron Paul’s house district, and voted for him many times. I must admit, I was NOT planning on voting for Rand... but, Grayson’s commercials have convinced me.

I just want to know; WHO was it, in his campaign office, that told him running tapes of Rand SPEAKING THE TRUTH ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY was going to hurt him in a Republican Primary?? That may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen a politician do since... well, since Ann Throw-Up threw W under the bus on Iraq two weeks after he came to Louisville to help her raise money! Grrrrrrr!!!!
