Coats leading; Stutzman, Hostettler splitting votes

With half of the precincts reporting in the GOP Senate primary race, former Indiana senator Dan Coats is preparing to celebrate. Coats shot to an early lead and is holding strong while his opponents Marlin Stutzman and John Hostettler are splitting the rest of the votes.

The Coats campaign has a small ballroom at the downtown Indianapolis Marriott hotel booked until midnight. Coats has already practiced his victory speech on the podium at the hotel. But the Republican Senate hopeful still has to beat four other candidates in Tuesday's primary election.

State legislator Marlin Stutzman is said to have the best chance of beating Coats.

Coats has been under fire from conservatives for his years as a Washington lobbyist and for a vote in favor of a gun control law when he was in the Senate.

Sucks to not get a true conservative, but Coats will win easily in November. +1

Hopefully, Stutzman (or Hostettler) are earning statewide name recognition for when Lugar kicks the bucket.

Let’s hope tht we get behind Coats if he is the candidate and don’t do a Crist.

We must take back the house and senate. Our lives depend upon it.

We also have a chance to convince Coats that our positions are right for America.

I cast mine for Stutzman. I hate that they brought a lobbyist/lawyer back from DC to run in this race. The Indiana GOP is Drain Bambaged.

Coats was recruited by the powers that be to keep a real conservative from the seat. It’s an old game.

John Cornyn plays it well.

right about now, I'm uber-pi$$ed!

Not only did Dan "gun-ban" coats take the republican spot, Andrea Carson took his district as well.

Now I'm going to be stuck voting independent this fall. I am so ashamed... my state is an absolute disgrace.

After ALL that has happened, the idiot voters in this state were too damn lazy to take a couple of hours to look at the fools before they voted.

agree totally on Lugar
he’s a poster boy for term limits, IMHO

his idea to implement Unigov was brilliant and kept Indianapolis a decent town long after Detroit, Cleveland, etc went down the tubes.

but that was long time ago
