Marjorie Feldman probably suspects that the government is lying and that we're headed for a depression if we aren't already there. I'm glad to see she's 'stocked-up' some. Ahem, not a prepper though, just 'stocked-up.'

So...

Even as the economic recovery plods ahead, many American consumers are refusing to come along.

Does it occur to the ass-hats at the AP that many American consumers are still freakin' unemployed?

Unfortunately, the spendthrift nature of the Federal and State governments also outlives the recession.

Spending lavishly means the government gets more tax revenue. I say starve the beast. Buy only what you can afford in cash and pay only necessary bills and kill the sundry purchases.

Oh, we are all spending more. Taxes and fees of every kind have shot up. It costs more for garbage pickup and city food taxes and all kinds of things.

I’m giving up stuff at the grocery store because I just get a shiver and think, “It’s immoral to spend that much money on a non-necessity”.

During and after the “Great Depression” people got frugal. It was only after the war when money flowed freely again that the spendthrift attitude resurfaced. History..repeating?

I’m not convinced we are out of a recession. The only thing that says we are out is numbers cooked up by the White House.

I’ve always been frugal. It’s good that everyone else is discovering it now. I even go further than most because many years ago I invested in a professional dehydrator that will hold 28 trays at a time. When fresh veggies go on sale I buy a lot and dry it.

Of course another, blame the victims, instead of blaming the real culprits.

Congress, Obama and specifically Pelosi, Reid, Rangel,
Schumer, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Dodd...

The government (read: obama) rips our economy apart, takes over major industries and banks, two congressional crooks kill our housing industry the the next 20 years, the press promotes it all and releases nothing but gloom and doom...and now they say it's the "people's fault" because we're "not spending enough.".

Nobody in their right mind is going to even attempt to go back to 'life as usual' as long as this street hustler is in the White House. In fact, it may never go back to what it was because of the extreme level of distrust for Washington and politicians in general that this administration has foisted upon us all.

And the media deserves what they get...they have aided and abetted this criminal the whole time, so if we're not buying their advertiser's products, and their advertisers get tight and drop the ads and the media outlets go out of business...tough cookies.

I can squeeze a few more years out of my old cars, and my furniture is serviceable, and I could cut back on the food too.

I refuse to take part in financing obama's pimp-squad, rock'n'roll, plastic banana good times freaknik of a presidency anyway.

This country will never be the same as long as we have obama, and even the memory of obama...he's ruined it for everyone...including his own followers...they just don't know it yet.

Article on being frugal, but I see smart balance there in the picture. Quite possibly the most expensive product in the grocery store compared to similar products.

It’s easy to be frugal when you’re unemployed.

I firmly believe they are lying. Heck, they’ve been caught in them over the last several years. They are literally saying the danger is over as they themselves pray for a miracle.

Personally, I think they have as much chance of solving this as anyone had of keeping the Titanic from sinking once it hit that iceberg. At this point, who is at the helm is completely irrelevant regarding the ship itself. Regarding how full the lifeboats are and who is in them...well, that’s another story.

Food prices are up over 10% in the last year.

I stumbled upon a “scratch and dent” grocery store. Have been able to drop total spending on groceries to what we spent 4 years ago.

“Even as the economic recovery plods ahead, many American consumers are refusing to come along.”

Because we are facing a govt that is targeting small business with increases in existing taxes and introducing new taxes that suck the lifeblood out of our industries.

And we are facing a govt that is hell bent on breaking the middle class so as to have a two tiered system of extremely wealthy (obama and his buds) and extremely poor (us) just like his homeland of kenya.

Frugality is wrongly put. It’s called hunkering down until we get an American president who was born here and has a real emotional attachement to this country and it’s people and doesn’t implement policies that are destructive to the country.

Hey baraq, were a lot smarter than you give us credit.
And we are natural born citizens who won’t give up without a fight.

PUNK. PUKE. Go back to kenya where you belong.

So its the consumer’s fault, not the por for that matter, the policies of Dear Leader or his fellow travelers in Congress? People are preparing for the long haul, I think.
