DUBAI The UAE cabinet on Sunday approved a plan to build up three-month stocks of rice, flour and other staples to boost food security following the European travel chaos that disrupted supplies, local daily the National reported.

The food stock build-up is aimed at ensuring stocks are not vulnerable to severe price increases or supply disruptions, the newspaper said.
The country, which is reliant on imports for much of its food supplies due to its arid desert climate, has been trying to diversify its food sources for years, including buying up agricultural land in African and Asia.
The shutdown of much of European airspace last week due to a huge cloud of volcanic ash paralysed air travel and disrupted the supply of food and other goods to the UAE and other Middle East countries.
Food retailers reported running low on fresh produce, exposing how fragile food security is in the region.

Alot of things can disrupt the food supply. It does not require a tin foil hat to have some things in place.
Chile. Haiti. tsunamis. Weather problems. It’s nice not to have to stress too much for a while, at least.
We’re at six months now. I hope everyone is trying to prep if they can.
