The good (or bad?) news is that they can’t solve their problem by inflating the country’s economy. The largest expenditures, like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security are indexed — so inflation would just increase those expense amounts, making the problem (finding the cash though Treasuries) worse.

They can do what they’ve done for this year and next, no social security COLA.

We can cure all our problems if we just make the people here illegally into citizens. That would allow them to bring their relatives here too. We've been promised that health care pricing will decrease because we have added 30+ million to the demand side. How much more would it drop if we added another 30 million?

We also need to raise the cost of energy for every household and business in the nation. That will surely make things more affordable. The higher employment costs will encourage business to hire more folks, and we will all have money left over from our higher energy bills to buy more things.

Seriously, WTF is up with Washington?

This poll doesn’t once address the fact people are angry because the Constitution is repeatedly being violated! It is not a matter simply about economics!

The Cloward-Piven strategy, that’s waht’s up in Washington. Sadly, the elected Pubbies are too stupid and cowardly to see or do anything about it!

RogerQ: “People forget the greatness of President Bush.”

Sorry, but I have to respond to that. I, for one, haven’t forgotten the weakness of President Bush. Compassionate conservatives, aka RINOs, like Bush are a good reason why we are currently in the fix that we are in.

Raising entitlements and fighting a war while cutting taxes is little better than raising entitlements AND taxes. Bush’s compassionate conservatism was a crock! Or have you forgotten our present financial dilemma started on Bush’s watch?

The fact that Obama is so much worse doesn’t vindicate President Bush, McCain, and the other RINOs who did their part to destroy liberty on their watch.

Seriously, WTF is up with Washington?

Ever read the Bible? Ever notice how the Founding Fathers always looked to God for divine Providence? We don't do that anymore, so we reap what we have sown.

I’ll continue to all of the above and obama can shove it!

“Unfortunately, you haven’t seen anything yet. Once the dollar crashes, we’re looking at wartime tax rates and the tripling of prices.”

To counter that i’m buying forclosed property to rent and getting out of cash!

I’ve got one in escrow for cash and have bids in on 3 more for cash purchases.

They and their rents will follow the value of the dollar.

"have no faith in the US government to secure their most basic social needs."

Idiot author doesn't get it, even after citing all those stats. I'm going to shout here because it needs to be shouted early and often:

WE DONT WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO SECURE OUR BASIC SOCIAL NEEDS! WE WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO GET THE H#LL OUT OF THE WAY SO WE CAN SECURE OUR BASIC SOCIAL NEEDS OURSELVES!!!

“They and their rents will follow the value of the dollar.”

It certainly beats staying in the dollar...but we are WAY overbuilt in housing units (on a national basis). In fact, that is the rut cause of the problem. So, BE CAREFUL.

I have two words for Obama. It isn’t ‘thank you’. But the first word does ends in ‘k’ and the second is also ‘you’.

I (and many others) were broken records about this over the last 10 years on Free Republic, as we could see it coming from afar, I cannot say how many times I have shared stories with other expats or retirees in Asia who have taken short trips back to the USA and had been amazed at the national economic and social decay. It comes as no surprise. We saw it coming through George W. Bush and Barack Obama alike. But particularly accelerated through Barack Obama.
