Climate consensus collapses in Senate - Kerry’s bill on hold after GOP ally bolts
Boston Globe ^ | April 25, 2010 | Matt Viser and Beth Daley

In one of the proudest moments of his long legislative career, Senator John F. Kerry was poised to unveil a long-awaited climate change bill tomorrow that would put a price on carbon emissions and provide billions of dollars in incentives to industry to drastically cut greenhouse gases.

Kerry had brought business on board, and even forged something rare in Washington, a bipartisan compromise with a key Republican leader.

Then his effort ran headlong into the Senate’s partisan snarl, and last night the release of the bill was postponed indefinitely.

Senator Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who had allied himself with Kerry on the issue, abruptly abandoned the effort last night, saying he was irate that the Senate’s Democratic leadership might proceed with a controversial immigration bill first.

The sudden reversal came after Kerry had already begun talking up the details of the legislation with interest groups and reporters.

Calling it a “game-changer’’ that seeks to forge a partnership with businesses instead of punishing them for polluting, Kerry told the Globe the bill would create a system that puts a price on carbon emissions and directs most of the proceeds to the public in the form of rebates.

It would also provide clean energy incentives worth $2 billion a year to the coal industry, and give tax credits to the nuclear industry.

The goal: Slice carbon pollution 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.

Yeah, right.

The goals: Tighten the noose around the neck of our liberties. Make many industries wholly owned democrat subsidiaries that will make big $ contributions in return for mafia style "protection."

We don't want the rebates. Don't tax us.

This is part of a letter I send to 100 of our “Overlords” in Washington through Grassfire.

‘CO2 drives the climate hypothesis is dead. Co2 Cap and Trade has never been about Science. It has always been about this.
Christine Stewart, former Canadian Minister of the Environment
“No matter if the science of global warming is all phony… climate change provides the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world.”

I have read what the CO2 Cap And Trade Tax scam has done to Europe and the UK. Among things, it has added 12 to 15 percent to cost to consumers/tax payers, draining Billion dollars out of their economy. I have read the Spain report. For every 1 green job credited, 2.2 jobs were lost.

According to the CEO of AEP on CNBC, that said “CO2 Cap and Trade Tax will increase the cost of electricity from $.04 per KW hour to $.07 per KW hour“. But yet, the Kerry-Graham Senate bill still want to cap CO2 emissions and build the foundation for a CO2 Tax . What,? Will the Trade part will come later?

NO NEW TAXES. CUT YOUR SPENDING.’

The Socialist tell we must stop our dependency on foreign oil through CO2 Credits. If that is true, then wouldn’t we just be trading dependency of foreign oil for dependency for foreign carbon credits?

We, the American Consumer/Taxpayer, all ready subsidize wind and solar to the tune of $.50 on the dollar and now you want us to support nuclear with Government Loan Guarantee. Why? Is it too much risk for Private Investors? Pay back not soon enough? Not enough dividends for the stock holders? Too many Federal and State “Road Blocks”(THINK EPA) that could change at the drop of a Hat and cause “cost overruns”? Too many Lawsuits to overcome?

Or is this just TOO big to fail so we the tax payers MUST
Fund the Project.

[Lindsay Graham] abruptly abandoned the effort last night, saying he was irate that the Senate's Democratic leadership might proceed with a controversial immigration bill first.

That's his reason for abandoning being a co-sponsor? That the bill won't be taken up "first" instead of "second?" or some later time? That reason doesn't make sense.

List of legislation in 111th Congress, with Graham as sponsor.

Either the reporter got the rationale for abandonment wrong, or Graham is hiding behind a bogus justification.

Graham will be back on board soon enough to complete the destruction of the economy and federalism.

America had a good run but these doddering old fools are seeing to her end.

They tried a similar one here in the state of Wisconsin. It went down in flames.

Thank God people are seeing through this charade.

The problem is Graham coming to the correct position on this sticks out for being so rare.

I have no idea what his constituents see in this guy.

I don't think the rebates were meant for us working stiffs. More of the Wealth Redistribution scheme for the under-achieving Acorn commies!

exactly what I was thinking - this doesn’t make sense.

My guess is that he’s back on board tomorrow after he receives whatever payoff he’s looking for (in this bill or somewhere else).

The other option is that he finally realized how horrible the idea is and thinks this is a way to save face while backing out of supporting it.

So little Lindsey Graham had a tantrum and a case of “pissy pants” when his favorite bill was in jeopardy of being placed on the back burner.

What a moron.
