House Democrats Are About to Become Unemployment Statistics

House Democrats Are About to Become Unemployment Statistics House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's gloomy November forecast.

By JOHN FUND

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer gave a gloomy assessment of his party's prospects at a media breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor this week. When reminded that political handicapper Charlie Cook is predicting a loss of 30 to 40 seats and perhaps more for House Democrats this fall, Mr. Hoyer didn't push back. "It's an accurate view of what the polls reflect right now. Yes. I have great respect for Charlie Cook." Democrats would lose control of the House if they drop 40 seats.

Mr. Hoyer went on to say he believes a strong Democratic campaign can still save a House majority for his party. He said a bleak job picture is blinding voters to improvements in the economy in other areas.

"Roosevelt said, 'We have nothing to fear but fear itself,' and what he meant by that is fear can prevent sort of reasoned analysis. The proposition that I think that I've made is that things are in fact improving and they are improving as a result of policies put in place in '09 and that we continue to pursue," he told reporters. "If that occurs over the next five months, six months, I think that's going to change the perception of the public."

Sure hope John Fund is right. It could NOT HAPPEN to a more deserving group of losers. I mean it.

Naw...It really doesn’t work that way. They’ll be hired as aids, drivers...whatever....at some ridiculous monetary rate besides.

Funny how George W. Bush presided over an economy rocked by the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the dot com bubble and unemployment never passed 5% until the Democrats took control of congress.

So now, they they can't even keep it below 10% without inflating the numbers by adding millions of do nothing government jobs, it is still Bush's fault?

I certainly hope so. I hope voters will have an attention span long enough to last until November.

Wonder how raising minimum wage to $7.25 is keeping UE high?

Closer to 140 seats.

That is not realistic - far too many are in the wagon rather than pulling it. Far too many in America want the freebies to continue and they know under GOP control they might have to to back to work.

What better way to get “closer to the little people” than standing in an unemployment line.

Does us little good if they are simply replaced with aisle-crossing, acquiescing, get-along RINOS.

Unless BO and the Democrat congress stop what they're doing and planning I don't expect this to be a problem. The likelihood that they won't stop means the attention and anger of patriotic Americans should reach a fever pitch that will explode in November.

Mr. Hoyer, remember the “jobless recovery” under President G. W. Bush?

Remember Hillary Clinton screeching, “Where are the jobs Mr. Bush?!”

How does it feel to be in those shoes now?

As do I, but I have little faith in the public. 52% of them voted for Obama with absolutely no research.
