Congressman Tom Tancredo Returns to UNC
Youth for Western Civilization ^ | Thursday, 22 April 2010 | John Anderson

On Monday, April 26, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Youth for Western Civilization (YWC), a student organization affiliated with CampusReform.org, will welcome former Congressman Tom Tancredo to speak on the topic of “Is Western Civilization Worth Saving?” in the Student Union Auditorium at 7 pm. The event is free and open to the public, with a speech followed by a question and answer session.

Tancredo was invited by YWC last year to speak on illegal immigration, but that event was disrupted by protestors who prevented Tancredo from speaking. This speech marks the first time since that event that Tancredo has returned to campus in an attempt to have his voice heard.

“YWC looks forward to Tancredo’s return and anticipates greater respect for free speech on the part of his opponents,” said Daryl Ann Dunigan, YWC’s president.

CampusReform.org and the Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty will cosponsor the event.

For security purposes, no bags are allowed. Tickets must be picked up in advance at the box office, with tickets available starting April 19 for students and starting April 22 for the general public.

If you are coming from off-campus and need tickets, please contact the Student Box office. When you call, you may reserve only two tickets, so if you are bringing a large group with you, please have more than one person from your group call so you have enough tickets when you arrive. You must pick up your tickets by 6:30 the night of the event. The box office is in the same building that the lecture is being held and opens at 6, so you may want to get there early.

The number for the box office is: 919.962.1449 Monday - Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

The local leftists violently shut down the speech last year, including smashing a window.

The plan to do the same this year: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2498027/posts

Hopefully Tancredo can get some local support there

Hopefully, his local support will be armed with baseball bats and such to prevent the leftist scum from violently shutting down his speech like they did before.

Trancredo may be allowed to speak, but the lunatic student body will attempt to disrupt the speech. Students at Chapel Hill simply cannot allow dissenting - that is, conservative - views on campus.

Chapel Hill is actually one of the odd places where the average student is more conservative than the average “grown up.” The town is full of fruitcakes while the student body as a whole actually has a lot of kids from more conservative parts of the state. There is a hard core contingent of brick throwing loons but they aren’t representative of the average kid. Speaking as a Chapel Hillian with a graduate degree from there I can say that the average student is much more concerned with how to find beer and how to find extracurricular activities than doing anything political.
