Shocker : Senate Democrats Admit Obamacare Will Increase Premiums
NRO ^ | APRIL 21, 2010 | Jim Geraghty

We already knew this was coming, of course — despite the dishonest, and sometimes preposterous, assurances from the bill's (suddenly verrry quiet) salesman-in-chief.

Just in case Sen. Dick Durbin's accidental articulation of the truth wasn't enough to convince you that congressional Democrats knew full well that higher premiums are an inevitable outcome of Obamacare, this New York Times article should do the trick:

Fearing that health insurance premiums may shoot up in the next few years, Senate Democrats laid a foundation on Tuesday for federal regulation of rates, four weeks after President Obama signed a law intended to rein in soaring health costs.

But wait: If insurance companies are forced by the federal government to cover people with expensive pre-existing conditions, and the federal government won't allow them to raise premiums to keep up with new federal government-imposed costs, couldn't they go out of business? Gee, if I didn't know better, I'd suspect that was precisely the point of this wonderful program.

Only a fool would believe that you could force the insurance companies to cover preexisting conditions, remove the lifetime cap on benefits, and allow "children" up to the age of 26 to be covered under their parents' insurance without raising premiums. Preventing these increases based on actuarial data will kill the private insurance companies, which was the objective all along.

I just do not understand how the democrats (NO REPUBLICANS VOTED TO HURT THEIR NATION THE WAY THEY DID WITH THE HEALTH/DEATH BILL) could do this to all of us?

Do they not understand how stressed we are?

Especially the folks who are already retired?

Why, why did they do this?

How can this be? I heard Obama promise us in speeches before Obamacare passed that a family of four could expect a $2500 rebate if his health care bill passed. Are you telling me Obama lied?

You are exactly right. The Obamatons wanted to kill the insurance companies all along. That’s why the the ultra-liberals grudgingly accepted a bill without single payer, knowing that single payer would come soon enough.

The American people — although polls show discontent — ultimately are too scared to give up Obama’s free health care. Just like in Britain — socialized medicine is a filthy, disease-ridden boondoggle. Yet voters refuse to get rid of the system for fear of the unknown.

Will Obamacare Shackle America’s Economic Future? (Part 1)—Moody’s Seems To Think So

"If one looks closely at the bill’s provisions, you can see that it is laden with new taxes, fees, and cutbacks in services."

The bill actually mandates higher costs and fewer services.

federal regulation of rates,

Well, yeah b/c if the federal government mandates that something is so then *poof* magically it happens. I can't wait until they regulate moonbeams and rainbows, and imagine how good it will be when they write a mandate that gumdrops will fall from the sky!

Not only too scared but once people are forced to pay for the “free” health care via taxes and fines then they will want the “free” health care they paid for...doesn’t matter if it’s not there..think Social Security.

Mr. Harkin praised a bill introduced by Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, that would give the secretary of health and human services the power to review premiums and block “any rate increase found to be unreasonable.”

That train left with the Mass. Senate election.

Dems could finagle the already passed Obamacare, but not a new bill.
