Republican Reid challenger suggested twice recently that people should barter with their doctors for services. She mentioned--seriously--paying with chickens. See video.
What is wrong with bartering? I am not sure if doctors prefer chickens but bartering seems like a reasonable idea to me.
It’s Politico NewBee just sit on the sidelines and LEARN!
Every doctor I know takes money only. No chickens or goats.
Just make sure you know who you're dealing with...........
I thought there was somebody else in the race...?
There are others, but she is the front runner.
fine, it’s Politico, but she really did say it. Twice.
Lowden is the front runner and is polling at a double digit lead over Reid right now.
There’s nothing wrong with bartering per se, but it’s totally impractical to “barter” for a $10,000 surgery or really for any medical services in this day and age. Consider this scenario
Receptionist: Here is the bill for your services
Patient: Would the doctor take payment in laundry folding/DVDs/kittens?
Receptionist: Uh, no. Only dollars.
Patient:...
I think I have the H5N1 Avian Flu. Will you accept this chicken as payment to check me out?
But do they think anything they can report will make people like Reid?
Sheeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz !!!!! shut up already !
But what she is saying is that our grandparents used to barter, that doctors are understanding human beings and that people will get care without the government forcing it. And there, she’s right. In context, she isn’t saying that now you should take a chicken to the doctor.
There are still services that are affordable enough that barter might soon become practical. My chiropractor charges a little under $40 per visit. Given that without regular adjustments I end up back in the wheelchair (no, really, I’m not kidding!), I could see one day trading home-raised meat or produce for that.
With something like surgery that probably wouldn’t work, but for minor things it might.
I have to chuckle about this suggestion of paying your doctor with chickens etc. My father was a family practice doctor in a small town for more than 60 years. There were times when his compensation for care was in beef or chicken. One patient settled his bill with a quarter of beef, unfortunately the cow had been shot with a shotgun and we often found BBs in the meat. My Mother made it very clear that there would be no further such deals in the future.
So she wants to barter with chickens, and Harry talks about how visitors to Capitol Hill smell. And compares opponents of health care reform to fans of slavery.
Is there something in the water in Nevada?
When my aunt was born in the depths of the Depression, my grandfather paid the doctor with a side of beef.
