Russia told its military to protect ethnic Russians in Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday

Russia told its military to protect ethnic Russians in Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday as the country's new interim leaders struggled to restore order after a violent uprising that ousted the president.

President Dmitry Medvedev issued the order after looters attacked Russian and Meskhetian Turkish villagers on the outskirts of the capital Bishkek in violence that killed five people as night fell on Monday.

Interim rulers who took control after the April 7 overthrow of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev are facing lawlessness around Bishkek and resistance from Bakiyev loyalists in the south.

Russia and the United States both operate military bases in the impoverished country of 5.3 million people, and the unrest has already disrupted operations at the U.S. Manas air base supplying troops in Afghanistan.

"President Medvedev gave an order to Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov to take measures to ensure the security of Russian citizens in Kyrgyzstan," a Kremlin spokesman said.

I just wish our president would order OUR military to protect US citizens along OUR border regions.

The sad fact is that the remaining ethnic Russians in these formers republics of the Soviet Union are for the most part descendants of former Gulag prisoners and their guards

Uhhh,, Yeahhh, I kind of get that. Its called a “comparison”. Russian prez tells Russian military to protect Russian citizens in Kyrgyzstan. I was just noting that American citizens are being murdered on our southern border, within our borders,, and STILL aren’t given the protection of our forces. That’s my point.

Maybe Russia should pull its occupation forces out of Georgia bring them home to Russia to start protecting Russians from Chechen black widow bombers huh?

Kazakhstan might let them through, but who knows? They are aligned with Russia, friendly with china, and a member of the Junior varsity NATO “partnership for peace” group. Wonder which way they would break if Kyrgyzstan started killing ethnic Russians or some such?

What sucks is that we have a base there,, a base properly focused on support in Afghanistan. Be a shame if our boys down south lost support of that base.

Kremlin will protect Russian citizens in Kyrgyzstan.. That means anyone who wants the protection (any Russian speakers, as anyone from the Former USSR is able to get Russia citizenship if they speak Russian.)

By what international law does Russia have the right to protect ethnic Russians?

This will not be front page news, of course, as tyrants cannot be wrong in the eyes of the media.
