New speed cameras trap motorists from space [Ruled Britannia alert!]

The cameras, which combine number plate reading technology with a global positioning satellite receiver, are similar to those used in roadworks.

The AA said it believed the new system could cover a network of streets as opposed to a straight line, and was “probably geared up to zones in residential areas.”

The Home Office is testing the cameras at two sites, one in Southwark, London, and the other A374 between Antony and Torpoint in Cornwall.

The `SpeedSpike’ system, which calculates average speed between any two points in the network, has been developed by PIPS Technology Ltd, an American-owned company with a base in Hampshire.

That's an awful lot of money to spend, just to up your ticket revenue and "stop speeding." If one were paranoid, one would almost think this were a preparation for "other" surveillance purposes.

When I would watch the last batch of Star Wars movies and saw people carrying out their daily lives on the Jedi home planet, I wondered how much personal autonomy a human being could enjoy surrounded by such mind-boggling technology.

Based on what is being worked on in the lab right now, I have little doubt that in 30-50 years, scanners will be set up that can read, accurately, your thoughts. And who knows how many of those scanners will even be needed.

I do not envy those born into this technology. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that we have created a monster. The whole world is on the precipice of a culture that will make today's Singapore look like anarchy.

And I suspect it will come upon us like an unexpected storm.

I believe most major developed countries are entering similar early stages of a big brother surveillance society. Once physical currencies are eliminated, every last detail of our lives will be monitored, and potentially manipulated.

I’m guessing that human nature doesn’t allow for government without abuse and tyranny eventually developing, especially as technology permits a few keystrokes to destroy a citizens life.

So they are convicting people for speeding based on the time they take to get from point A to B? A wormhole appeared in front of me and I accidentally entered it, your honor.
