You know, when I got my first job I got two weeks vacation. A year. When I made plans to go away on it, and told my mom (who ran her own business all her life), she said, I never in my life went on two weeks vacation. She was over 70 at the time.

Me too. Even when my husband worked for others and got a lot of days vacation as part of the package, he could never take them. Now, we have out own business, and we can never take off. Our last vacation was 8 days in Ireland, and guess when? Over 9/11/2001. They shut down all the flights to the US, and we almost didn't get home. My husband is over 70 and he puts in all nighters at the plant all the time, just to keep the shipments moving.
It's a beautiful Sat. morning. The yard is calling. And we're at the plant putting finishing touches on a shipment that has to go out before 2 PM. I have a new grandchild, born in November, whom I haven't met yet. We can't get away, and she lives in another state.
I'm not complaining, but it would be easy to despise someone who comes up with such lame excuses as "The whole family hasn't had a vacation together since the Holidays in Hawaii." He'd better not say that to my face! Billary didn't even have that many vacations when they couldn't stand to be in the same house at the same time!
