The Trouble with Trey Grayson: Attacking Conservative Ideas and Sarah Palin
RedState ^ | 04/15/2010 | Erick Erickson

I know some of you have a hard time supporting Rand Paul, mostly because of his dad. In fact, most of the attacks hurled at Rand have been about his father’s positions, confusing the two. To be fair though, I don’t agree with all of Rand’s positions.

But let’s look at Trey Grayson for just a minute. The man has refused to take a substantive position on bailouts, etc. for the longest time. He’s peddled false smears against Paul that Paul is pro-choice. In fact, Rand Paul is very much pro-life, but thinks because abortion is a non-constitutional issue contrary to Roe v. Wade, it is an issue for the several states to ban and not for Congress, except for the bit about defunding federal payment for abortion, which he gladly supports doing.

Then there is the latest.

Grayson is behind in the polls with not much longer to go. He has hurled as many wild attacks at Rand as possible. He is now even attacking Rand for being a conservative on issues like Medicare and Social Security. Seriously — Trey Grayson is attacking Rand Paul for wanting to reform both entitlement programs, including allowing workers to invest their own social security money as they see fit.

And the icing on the cake? Now Trey Grayson is attacking Sarah Palin because Palin endorsed Rand Paul. Grayson says Palin is unfit for office and he questions her judgment.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Republican that D.C. Republicans say we should all get behind.

Not me.

2 Questions: #1. What are the polls showing? And #2 When is the Primary Election.

Thanks

Paul leads Grayson among pro-lifers by a 50%-32% margin. Grayson leads Paul among pro-abortion Republicans by a 42%-27% margin.

Conservatives, Christians, social conservatives, and the statewide Kentucky voting population support Rand Paul.

“Conservatives favor Paul by 51 percent to 29 percent with 16 percent undecided. Those who attend religious services regularly or occasionally favor Paul by double-digit margins. Gun owners back Paul 48 percent to 22 percent with 22 percent undecided.”

Rand Paul leads by double digits among men and women, among conservatives, pro-life voters, gun owners.

“Grayson leads today only among the 1 in 5 Republican primary voters who say they are pro-choice.

Greyson has run an especially ugly campaign against Paul, and his proxies here on FR are part of it. Incoming in 3... 2... 1...

Greyson has run a TERRIBLE campaign, and looks likely to me to lose.

Did he REALLY think that showing video of Rand Paul stating THE THRUTH, (that the elgibility age for SS needs to go up to 70), would HURT Rand in a Republican Primary??

That clip alone, has probably changed my vote.

I still don’t like Rand Paul. And, frankly.. I think he has almost no chance to win the general election. Maybe, the conservative tide will carry him over the finish line... but, we’re going to be in much greater danger of losing this seat to DIMS than we should be.

Wow! It looks like the tide has turned drastically in Grayson’s favor. What happened? Did the “smear campaign” work?

The polls show it as a Republican win regardless of which Republican wins the primary.

The last polls I saw, specifically with Rand Paul running against Mongiardo or Conway showed it to be a dead heat... like, 41-40%

I’d like to see a recent poll that says that, since it ain’t reality. The only thing I’ve seen like that is SurveyUSA’s generic “would you vote for the republican or democrat” question in Kentucky; which doesn’t list any candidate names.

My bad; I did misread the chart. I made a mistake but I'm relieved to know I did. Thanks.
