Dear God...why didn’t the GOP run Alan Keyes in 2008?! The man is apparently unafraid to candidly speak the truth.

I don’t think I’ve heard her spend a single word criticizing anyone on the GOP side.
She saves all her fire for the Dems and the O. She seems to take a fair amount of “friendly” fire, but she shrugs it off. Her focus is on the Dems.

If Ambassador Keyes spent half as much time battling Democrats as he does Republicans people might actually listen to him. He has been a whiner for a long time who most people just ignore - especially voters.

Aw, jeez, first she endorses Juan McShame (for which I gave her an almost total pass) and now this? She’s rapidly losing credibility with me. I hope this is just an off-the-cuff throwaway comment not really meant to strongly endorse Steele.

Keyes is wrong.
Rush Limbaugh is doing the same thing as Sarah, trying to hold together the GOP. Smart conservatives realize we cannot afford to dismantle the heavily flawed Republican Party; we either work within for change or we get 8 years of Obama, and possibly live to see the Constitution removed from that glass vault and made into a huge parchment airplane, flown up the Mall.

I'm sure that Sarah Palin will duly note these penetrating comments by the brilliant political strategist and repeatedly elected Alan Keyes.

Looks like another hot day at FR!
Oddly enough, both Keyes and Steele ran for US Maryland Senator and lost as did hispanic Linda Chavez. Maryland AAs always vote for white democrats over minority republicans. That’s not racism though , racism (to the MSM) is only when Tea party activists protest mandated insurance policies, massive deficits and higher taxes.

Interesting article. I found his description of Palin as a “Judas Goat", particularly fascinating.
However, I do not believe Palin is involved in any type of conspiracy to bring true conservatives into voting for the Marxist lite Republicans. I believe it is more of Palin being a populist politician willing to do anything and say anything that she thinks may advance her career.

Michael Steele has from the first day of his tenure been a spokesman for the RINO, pro-abortion, amoral, 'money is god' elite minority that presently controls the Republican Party. I finally agree wit Alan Keyes on something.

You know, there was a time when I actually liked Alan Keyes. He’s a brilliant man in many ways, is conservative beyond a shadow of a doubt and writes exceedingly well.
Having said that, he’s gone off the deep end because of his inability to get elected. He runs completely off a cliff with every conservative cause du jour. It’s a shrill cry for attention, hey look at me, see how much more conservative-than-thou I am, see how brilliant I am.
His defining public moment, for me, was pushing a baby stroller down the street at Notre Dame, with Cabbage Patch dolls covered with ketchup in it, in a business suit.
He’s gone completely ‘round the bend.
Do I have some misgivings about Sarah, due to her support of McCain? Yes, I do. I’m not about to throw her overboard due to that, not yet. Time will tell. Do I believe Obama is questionable, as far as his meeting the constitutional requirements for office? Yes, I do, but embracing that nutbag Orly Taitz did more damage to any hope for the constitutional case to be heard, than any Obama supporter could possibly hope to have done.
That’s what Alan Keyes has become, an inadvertant shill for conservative opposition, due to his automatically off the charts take on every single issue of the day. He’s a satire of a conservative. If he were to sign up to FR tomorrow and start posting this stuff anonymously, I’d think he was a POE.

How can people who claim to be conservative go on blinding themselves to the truth about Sarah Palin? In the critical area of her personnel choices she blithely promotes the wrong people, as she did when, as Governor, she boasted about putting a pro-abortion Planned Parenthood leader on the Alaska Supreme Court. Now she backs McCain, and heaps prevaricating praise on Michael Steele, though the words and actions of both men confirm their deficiency in anything that more than superficially resembles sincere, consistent conservative principle.
Keyes on Palin perspective bump to self.

Politics is the art of compromise, something which Alan Keyes knows nothing about, and for this I love him, and for this he hates Sarah.

I don't generally agree with Alan Keyes, and I'm not going to comment on his opinion of Sarah Palin.
But I think there is some wisdom in his critique of at least SOME of her supporters (for which she cannot be personally blamed):
Do Sarah Palin's supporters want people to treat her the way the Obama's media clique treats him? Are we to be mesmerized by her words, but by no means analyze her actions?
There certainly is a lot of knee-jerk attacks on any negative opinions regarding Sarah Palin's views; worst in my opinion are those "supporters" who either try to deny what Sarah believes, or insist that she is just ignorant of the right opinions, and shouldn't be held accountable; or that she is lying about stuff out of loyalty.
All of these do disservice to Palin, who is a strong woman with opinions that need to be respected, not dismissed when those opinions don't fit the supporters preconceived notions.
To: rabscuttle385
Well, Alan Keyes has been a lot of talk and not a lot of action, or at least not successful action. So when he lodges the same complaint against Governor Palin, I find it droll, to say the least.

As I said o another thread, Sarah's endorsements bother me less than some highly visible positions she has taken. One in question is support for the "Law of the Sea Treaty". This sovereignty destroying monstrosity is even something that McCain quit supporting when he ran for office. I have yet to hear Sarah repudiate her previous support: http://globalsolutions.org/files/general/Palin_LOS_Letter.pdf This letter to Alaska's two Senators at the time urging them to support the treaty show that she was familiar with the fact that it was largely considered a threat to U.S. Sovereignty but she urged support for it anyway.
I was also not very happy when she went along with Mccain's support of the Bush bailout. She had stood her ground on Alaska drilling, so I could not see why she had to support him on this unless she agreed with him on the issue. After the campaign was over she continued to voice support for that bailout. Given that the House Republicans opposed this measure and had a free market alternative backed by numerous free market economists and think tanks, there is no excuse to continue support for that policy. Not only did she fail to support the courageous House members on this subject, but she appears to have thrown them under the bus in her book if the following quote reportedly on page 270 is accurate: "The House of Representatives rejected a Bush-backed economic bailout plan in a vote in which two-thirds of Republicans voted no. The impression this made on the electorate was not helpful to our cause. Millions of Americans were poised to go bankrupt or lose their savings, and the perception was that Republicans had failed to respond."
The polls indicate that it was support for the bailout that hurt our cause, NOT the House GOP's opposition to it!!!! This measure was highly unpopular and McCain's support dropped after he suspended the campaign to publicly lead the effort to get the measure passed.
I like Sarah and think that she has a ton of charisma and conservative instincts, but am not at all convinced that she has a consistent conservative ideology. If she decides to remain as a media figure attacking the opposition, this would not be a problem. On the other hand, these are questions that need answers if she is to be put forward as a leader of the conservative movement.
