Georgia is joining a Florida-led group of states in a lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama's overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system, Florida's attorney general said Tuesday.
Bill McCollum, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run for Florida governor, said a total of six U.S. states had now committed to join the original 13 that filed the lawsuit on March 23.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. It claims the reform of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system, pushed through by congressional Democrats after months of bitter partisan fighting, violates state government rights in the U.S. Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed states.
Legal scholars think the suit is likely to end up in the hands of the Supreme Court, but many agree that the supremacy clause of the Constitution, which puts the powers of the U.S. government above those of the states, will prevail.
"We welcome Georgia to our efforts to protect the constitutional rights of our citizens as well as the sovereignty of our states," McCollum said in a statement.
"The federal government cannot mandate that all citizens buy qualifying health care coverage or be forced to pay a tax penalty -- this is unconstitutional," he said.
"We will aggressively pursue this lawsuit to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary to prevent this unprecedented expansion of federal powers, impact upon state sovereignty, and encroachment on our freedom," said McCollum.

I think so. The 19 in the “big” suit, plus NV (I think) and MD, which I think are filing separate suits.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to sue seperately and divide the Justice Department?
I was thinking that for the sake of publicity and a show of unity it would be better to go in together. If the news were constantly referencing each individual state’s fight, people would lose interest and not be aware of how many states were involved. However, if we can have 20+ states suing together, I think it makes a larger psychological impact.
I think that there are 19 in the FL suit, plus VA separately, haven't heard about NV and MD as being separate.
When a ‘majority’ of states come out against this monstrosity .. Why would lawsuits even be necessary?
I guess that what I am asking is .. once the majority of states show that they don’t want the ‘monstrosity’, don’t they have the right to over-ride the Federal government since the states are in ‘charge’ of their own governance?

Thanks for the correction. I meant VA, but typed MD. (Glad I did not type VD.) Perhaps it was the AZ governor who hired his own lawyer to get around the dem AG, not NV.
It does, but you know how the MSM angle will run if the group of states is presented as monolithic.
The imagery and slant will be as if it is a racial/class warfare issue, drawing on decades of convincing the masses that the last major States' Rights conflict was about something else entirely. That will be used to make not bankrupting the country and retaining the best health care system in the world into a "racist" issue, and the MSM court of 'Conventional Wisdom' will run with that meme regardless of the numerous very deep flaws in it.
After all, the 'truth' is what they say it is--just ask 'em.

I believe it's 20 altogether. I left Missouri on the list with contact info so Freepers could send support even though they haven't officially joined as yet. The Pubbie Lt governor is fighting an uphill battle against embedded Dims in the State Capitol and some encouragement couldn't hurt. One other "techinical" item, Mississippi Gov Haley Barbour has announced their State will be joining the suit but haven't "officially" joined. Next month he says.
I remember when the Healthcare bill passed that 38 states were possibly going to file lawsuits. Oh, I hope they do; we need to stop this monster.
I think there are still 38 - 40 States with various forms of 10th Amendment blowback for the federales. Sovereignty initiatives, Firearms Freedom Act along with Healthcare Freedom Act, etc round out the menu. AG Holder is going to have his hands full fighting patriots since he can't seem to find the time to take on the dirtbags.
