Something that didn't get much comment in the ObamaCare debate is Section 5210 of the odious, authoritarian bill -- a pdf of which can be found here. It starts on page 496 and basically establishes another branch of the military.

Section 5210 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act establishes a "commissioned corps" and a "ready reserve corps" with the purpose of the reserve being to "fulfill the need to have additional Commissioned Corps personnel available on short notice (similar to the uniformed service’s reserve program) to assist regular Commissioned Corps personnel to meet both routine public health and emergency response missions."

Basically, it’s the foundation for a Federal “National Guard” with the President as the Governor. He needs troops for “internal disturbances”.

Until the signing of ObamaCare, the Commissioned Corps was divided into two tracts, regular and reserve (with a slight promotion benefit to the regular corps because of the extra commitment that comes with being in it). Now, all those in the USPHS will be made regular and civilians with financial commitments will be “ready reserve”.

What no one mentioned in the dance to ObamaCare was that the US already has affordable/free healthcare for those without insurance - Community Health Clinics and Rural Health Clinics provided competent and on-going care to anyone who wished to utilize the clinic. Those people would be charged on a sliding scale based on Medicare reimbursement rates or not at all if they could not afford it. These clinics had civilian and uniformed doctors providing care.

THAT scares me more than any other aspect of this foul piece of legislation. This is it, baby. If we can’t stop this as a nation, then we had best have a plan B for what we’re going to do. There is SO MUCH in this bill that has absolutely NOTHING to do with health care, it’s stunning. What is even more stunning is there were enough Congressmen and women who voted for it and have absolutely no regard for the crime they committed.
