I was at a talk given by a very high level female GOP operative. Very well known and well respected within the party. She said she was in a plane with Specter and the heat wasn’t working...and he didn’t offer them water or anything...she said he was always rude and she was there, outside his office, the day he flipped.
She had a long held appt. with him to meet some young Republicans. She said she’ll never forget that feeling and it will never happen again. That’s how I know this Republican party today is different....because the people on the ground (and I’m not talking about the RNC), and they are mostly women, are not going to just support the party people and that’s why I’m happy to be working inside the GOP today.
Now it's suddenly fashionable to jump on Arlen, who if truth be told, was a no-good liberal SOB from day 1, but it was the official Republican Party who propped him up for 40 years, most notoriously when GW and Karl The Idiot Savant went all out for him against a real Republican in that primary. One reason? Arlen always did very well with the ladies' vote.
Just think, 100 years ago, the core of the Republican Party was composed of principled, common-sense white men who made the country run, African-American men who knew which political party had actually released their families from slavery at the cost of 100's of thousands of Republican lives, and the majority of teachers and college professors.
Today's GOP, you tell me, consists of female political professionals ("the People on the Ground") and somehow, Michael Steele as The Man on Top? Why does this lash-up not inspire me with confidence ... or inspire me to financially support it?
