Man kills himself after row at work over non-PC joke
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | April 10, 2010 | IAN GALLAGHER and CHRISTINE CHALLAND

Posted on 04/11/2010 1:03:01 AM PDT by Stoat

(edit)

Roy Amor, 61, who was devastated at the prospect of losing his job making prosthetics, shot himself in the head outside his house.

He was facing a disciplinary investigation after suggesting to the black colleague that he ‘better hide’ when they noticed immigration officers outside their clinic.

It is understood that the man was a close friend of Mr Amor and was not offended. However, it was overheard by someone else who lodged a formal complaint.

(edit)

The black man, who is believed to have attended Mr Amor’s funeral and had known him for many years, is said to be ‘shattered’.

His distraught family believe that what he intended as a light-hearted remark became overblown.

Mr Amor, a classic car enthusiast, was married to his wife Ann, a former nurse, for 39 years. The couple have a grown-up son and daughter.

Despair: Roy Amor left three notes

****************************************

Rest in Peace Mr. Amor; the Left can no longer harm you.

I am amazed that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often, considering the absolutely devastating effect that allegations of political-incorrectness can have upon a person's life and career.

Perhaps it happens more often than we know, and we're just never told about it.

I had a friend whose son was suspended from grade school for the following exchange that happened at recess. A little black girl touched his face that was red from exertion and said “your face looks like a strawberry” He touched her face and said “Your face looks like chocolate”. A teacher overheard and he was suspended.

In fairness, I believe that a situation like this could occur in the USA as well, and just as easily.

In the USA, so far, it probably would have been ignored. Or at least not escalated to a formal issue.

Incredible! Chocolate is a good thing; what an idiot teacher. She spoiled what was probably a cute moment for the two relevant people. Some people seek the self-righteousness of indignant victimization.

Shot himself? In England? With a gun?

Many long guns and shotguns are still legal and can be kept in homes.

I disagree. Until I read that this incident occurred in the UK, I was certain it had happened in the US.

Exactly why I thought it had happened here and not the UK. We're forever hearing how it's next to impossible for a private citizen in the UK to own a firearm.

Oh. I was under the erroneous assumption that all privately held firearms in the UK were illegal.

Not necessarily.

Much depends on policies of the company in question.

Then it depends on the person lodging the complaint. If the employee lodging the complaint presses the issue hard enough the company will probably fold and suspend the offending individual.

If the offending individual has a history of complaints against him he could lose his/her job regardless of whether the person to whom the remark was addressed was offended.

I work for a large company and this is pretty much what my supervisory training teaches.

I believe that under a strict license, long-barreled shotguns and older, “grandfathered” rifles can be legally owned and stored in the home. Whenever I’ve been involved with threads here discussing firearms in the UK, some of our British Freeper Friends usually jump in to set us Yanks right ;-) Perhaps our friends Manc or Agere Contra know the legality of the matter more precisely? I’m just going from memory here and if none of our British Friends answer in this thread I would imagine that the answer can be had with a few minutes’ web searching.

In his time of troubles I wonder if any of his co-workers offered him a hand.

May G-d rest your soul Mr. Amor and may the PC snitch plead on their face for divine mercy to save themselves from one of Dante’s Circles.

Every single comment at the Daily Mail rails against what a PC dump the UK has become. Rails against the UK thought police.

He’s just a useless old racist white man. The UK equivalent of our 0bama-trons are glad to see him gone. Just clearing out the dead wood. One of the PC fanatics can now move on up into his position
