It’s standard journalistic practice to try to get verification from the subject of the news. If she didn’t try, shame on her.

Except that Laura Ingraham is more of a commentator. If she were a 'reporter' then she would be guilty of what you say, and moreover shouldn't be 'tweating' her opinion. But as a commentator it's pretty much anything goes. And Barney should know that.

Do you think Keith Olbermann holds back on this kind of stuff?

Hmmm. Well, if she “broke” this news, she’s reporting the news, not just commenting on something that was reported elsewhere. If one wants to be honest, and not some kind of rumormonger, than one takes the appropriate steps. To me, if you want to hold your head up high, you do the right thing.

I rest my case. Do you think everyone should sink to his level. If Ingraham wants to be the next Olbermann, than I have no interest in anything she says.
