AUGUSTA, Georgia (AP)Italian 16 year-old Matteo Manassero became the youngest player to ever make the cut at the Masters, sinking three long par putts on the back nine Friday to finish at 3-overright on the cutline.
Manassero has now made the cut at both his majors, having tied for 12th at last summers British Open. I always want to stay levelheaded since thats the education that my parents gave me, he said. My parents help me also in this period to stay more level. But I dream for something like the Masters.
So do older golfers, and they dont have his track record.
Manassero, who last summer became the youngest winner in the 124-year history of the British Amateur, shattered Augusta Nationals previous record for youngest player to make the cut. South African Bobby Cole was about a month shy of his 19th birthday when he made it in 1967. Manassero is also the first amateur to play the weekend since 1999.
And hes the lone teenager out of the four in this years field to make the cut.
Japans Ryo Ishikawa, who makes no secret of wanting to be the youngest Masters champion ever, had a chance to join Manassero. But the 18-year-olds 15-footer burned the left edge of the cup on 18, leaving him one stroke short.
Maybe, Manassero said, when asked if he hopes to beat Ishikawa to the green jacket. But Im dreaming about being the Masters champion. At what age, I dont mind, actually.

AUGUSTA, Georgia, April 9 (Reuters) - Precocious British amateur champion Matteo Manassero claimed another record on Friday when the 16-year-old Italian became the youngest player to make a cut at the U.S. Masters.
Fantastic, his father Roberto told Reuters behind the 18th green. For Matteo, its incredible.
The soft-spoken Italian teenager is nearly two years younger than South African Bobby Cole when he made the cut just shy of his 18th birthday in 1967.

From bleacherreport.com
During the 2009 British Open, Tom Watson was paired with Monassero for two rounds.
"I can't predict how good he will be, but the snapshot right now looks really good," Watson said to the New York Times about the 44 years younger Monassero.

Weather is gonna be nice today down here in Georgia. The howling winds from yesterday will die way down.

Yes, but the greens will be a little harder and the pins will be tucked away here and there a little more.
Woods still owns that course. The course is waaaay too forgiving to his wayward tee shots (no rough). And 13 and 15 are cake for him.
He looks like the winner (unfortunately) from here.

Good, we can always use young blood in golf. One of my favorites on tour right now is, Colombian Camilo Villegas.

It amazing that Woods is in such good condition mentally and physically. He appears to have no conscience.
