The American economy appears to be in a cyclical recovery that is gaining strength. Firms have begun to hire and consumer spending seems to be accelerating.
That is what usually happens after particularly sharp recessions, so it is surprising that many commentators, whether economists or politicians, seem to doubt that such a thing could possibly be happening.

I'm in the SouthEast.
Mrs WBill teaches at a local community college. Typically, her class size is 9-13 people. In '07 there were 3. (I remember this because her class is such that the more students she has, the more time she needs to spend in the field, and the more money she makes....)
This semester, she's got 35 students. Doesn't bode well for this area, IMHO.
As far as what I've seen for local businesses, things are picking up a little over what they were this time last year. For instance, instead of restaurants being completely empty at lunch, there might be 1/2 dozen tables filled.
I'm still not seeing *any* construction of note. Lots of vacant strip malls, offices, and apartments. We're trying to sell our house - there's very little interest in it. Fortunately, we're not desperate and can wait it out if necessary.
Absolutely ZERO "help wanted" signs. Usually, the Fast Food chains will have them up in this area. For the past year or so, nada.

Even assuming the bloodied economy is stumbling to its feet, it wont be long before the club of all the new taxes will club it back down to the ground!

In case you haven’t noticed the Obamao regime has been cooking the books. They issue cheery reports only to quietly revise them after the MSM propaganda machine has used them. Karl Denniger over at Market Ticker and others have been keeping track of these revisions.
Now I ask you who are you going to believe? The Obamao regime and its MSM propaganda wing or your own eyes and your own nose?

Why so Glum NYTs? Numbers point to a Democratic party bloodbath in November and your desperation to put lipstick on the economic pig won’t play in Peoria. Your party is going down, scum.
