O'Hare lands more federal funds for expansion (Chicago Way, WH Way)

Chicago's effort to expand O'Hare International Airport got another helping hand from the federal government Tuesday in the form of $410 million for three runways.

Add the $337 million transportation officials promised in 2005, and the $747 million in federal cash set aside for O'Hare is the largest financial commitment ever made to a single airport project, transportation officials said.

"It's an enormous amount of money, but it really is the kind of investment that has to be made at O'Hare in order to continue it to be the premiere international airport that it is," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, a former Republican congressman from Peoria.

Though the latest federal windfall will keep O'Hare expansion alive, Mayor Richard Daley's administration is still far from lining up all the money to pay for the ambitious project.

The city needs $3.2 billion to build two new runways and extend another in the plan's latest phase, but so far it only has the $410 million announced Tuesday. City aviation officials said they plan to use $1.1 billion in passenger ticket taxes and hope to borrow about $1.8 billion to make up the difference.

This is a Good News, Bad News, story. (the money aside for a moment)

• Good News: this means that the proposed 3rd Airport in Peotone is over, done, cooked, stick a fork in it --- finished.
  (Peotone - Indian for; 'middle of nowhere, bring map, compass, canoe and blankets')

  And that means all the crooks who bought land around there 'high' thinking they'd seller 'higher' are gonna be bankrupted. Rep Jesse Jackson Jr is prolly crying in his wallet. And asking daddy for some pocket money

• Bad News: Daley continues his march into other suburbs boundaries. Grabbing Land at will, all illegally. But hey, its Daley. Whatta ya expect. And this also means these groups of Suburban Mayors and some families will have to spend more millions to fight the ahole in court, to no avail in the long run.

  And in this continuing expansion of O'Hare, it really is a case of which was here first, the houses or the airport. And its the houses. Plus a Cemetery that will have to be 'moved'.

Now personally I don't want to go to fricken PEOTONE to catch a plane or drop someone off. O'Hare IS convenient. But Daley's attitude of him having control over anything he wants in the state, even if its in another city like Bensenville or Elk Grove Village has to end.
