Wow, a strong Republican candidate ... in Hawaii!
From his Honolulu City Council website:
Councilmember Charles K. Djou currently represents the 4th Council District (Waikiki to Hawaii Kai). In the City Council, Charles serves as the Chairman of the Executive Matters and Legal Affairs Committee and is a member of the Public Infrastructure, Budget, and Public Safety and Services Committes. Charles previously served as a Representative in the Hawaii State House, where he was the Minority Floor Leader.Raised on Oahu, Charles spent most of his life in Hawaii. Charles graduated from Punahou School and earned both a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, graduating magna cum laude with distinction. Charles earned his law degree from the University of Southern California. Outside of the City Council, Charles serves as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. He teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu.
Please get the word out & donate to the Charles Djou Campaign here:
Charles is married to Stacey Kawasaki Djou and together they have three children. Charles' surname "Djou" is a misspelled French translation of his Chinese surname "Zhou."

The Aloha State has a unique special-election structure in which the candidate with the most votes wins without a primary or runoff. The two bickering Democrats in the raceformer Congressman Ed Case and Hawaii state Senate President Colleen Hanabusamight split the vote and help a little-known city councilman named Charles Djou become the first Republican to represent Hawaii in Washington in two decades. New update: Sen. Dan Inouye: U.S. Democrats Not Backing Ed Case http://www.kitv.com/news/23063688/detail.html UPDATED: 6:52 am HST April 6, 2010
HONOLULU — Sen. Dan Inouye is on Oahu where he joined sign wavers campaigning for congressional candidate Colleen Hanabusa Monday night.
He told KITV4 he is not concerned about a congressional newspaper report that U.S. House Democrats are considering throwing their support behind democrat Ed Case.
It sounds like Dem candidate Colleen Hanabusa may need “help”, too. Here's the link if you wish to contribute to "help" her fight Dem. Ed Case: http://www.hanabusa2010.com/contribute

Sad to say they can probably hang on to Murtha’s seat if Obama and Pelosi run around the district giving PERSONAL ASSURANCES that the Murtha DOD pork pipeline that has sustained the local economy for 20 years will continue.
There has literally been no private sector job growth in that area since steel left town.

Exactly. Last I heard the RAT heir was ahead in the polls, although that was probably before they passed the health care monstrosity.

Burns is running the special election and hes starting to put up his adds now. He should win. Its confusing because he might not win the Republican primary to challenge in November. The last poll showed Col Russell winning. Well see what happens. Either would be a solid conservative in the house.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend!"

Burns - whatever his positions are - bought his way onto the ticket as a direct counter to Bill Russell. Both Russell and Irey in the last two match-ups against Murtha were poorly supported (if at all) by the state R committees. PA-12 will now - thanks to them - be deluged by those trying to split up the Repubs by both RINOs and DemocRATs. Check with Smooth, he lives there.
Ping to smooth and jaz.

If the Dems lose these two special elections, it will foreshadow the wave of change in November and should stop their agenda in Congress this summer... No, they'll accelerate passing Shamnesty, because it will be a matter of life and death.

"Check with Smooth, he lives there."
I don't have to check with Smooth. I live here. I'm telling you that both Burns (from everything I've seen and read) and Russell (who I have seen speak multiple times and read a lot about back in 2008 election) are both very conservative.
I think what hurt Russell in 2008 was that he was a political neophyte and got a late start on his campaign because he did not retire from the Army until the summertime. It's true that the Republican party did not put a lot of money into the last two races with Irey and Russell. I think that has more to do with the fact that Murtha was an entrenched incumbant and it showed. He brings home the bacon here and people voted because of that.
This year it's different. We should now take this seat. Burns has a lot of his own money to spend which is his biggest asset. Russell is no longer a political neophyte which is his biggest asset. I'm leaning on voting for Burns in the special election (obviously my only choice) and Russell in the primary to run in November. Russell has raised a goodly amount of money so he should be ok in that area.

I figured once that hamburger Murtha left office his seat would be taken by the Repubs. Winning a seat in Hawaii is gravy.

"So they have a special election next month...does the winner have to run again in November?"
For Pa, there are actually two elections we are voting on. The special election in which Burns will run against Murtha's crony Critz is one election. This is for taking up the rest of Murtha's term until November. The second election is the traditional primary in which Burns and Russell will run for the Republican nod to run against Critz in November. We could have a situation where Burns wins to serve in Murtha's seat until November and Russell is the nominee to run against Critz in November.

"Quick, lets run some Tea Party Party candidates so we can split the conservative vote and keep these seats Dem!" I don't think you understand the Tea Party. It's simply a mass of like minded Americans who are not beholden to the RNC or GOP and who will donate to individual candidates as they see fit.

I don't think you understand the Tea Party. It's simply a mass of like minded Americans who are not beholden to the RNC or GOP and who will donate to individual candidates as they see fit. I can assure you, I understand the Tea Party, since I was helping to organise them before most of the people out there started jumping on the bandwagon.
My comment was sarcasm, directed at the tendency on the part of some to want to try to turn the Tea Party movement into a third party movement that would do nothing but split conservatives and hand elections to Democrats, just like pretty much ALL third parties do. I oppose any attempt at a "Tea Party Party" - and we should note that most of the major national Tea Party organisations are in agreement with me on this point.

Okay... Thanks for the explanation. I am 100% in agreement with you: No Tea Party party. It's killing the MSM and liberals that there is no single Tea Party leader to attack. It frustrates them and I enjoy watching it.
