I really liked “Heat” but got tired of it towards the end. Also how did this man fund all this free labor? Trust fund baby?

I wonder how you liked “Last of the Mohicans,” I had such high hopes. I sort of liked it, and thought I needed to read all the Leatherstocking tales - so I did, and it ended up being a Big Nothing. Sort of the 1800s meandering almost Dickensian no real conclusion thing.

He was fiction editor of the New Yorker and editor of a magazine--could be he saved up money. Or possibly his wife had money. He had written a previous book as well, but I don't think it was a bestseller.

I loved Heat to the end. Restaurants can be so magical--and then to see the world behind the scenes, crazy and fiercely competitive and fast as a bullet, is such a revelation. It's like the theater in more ways than one. Your waiter walks out with a beautiful plate and you have no idea . . .
