Guardians of the Free Republics' letters to governors spur inquiry
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 02, 2010 | Kathleen Hennessey

At least 30 governors have received the group's demand that they cede office in three days. Federal officials say they're investigating whether the message might be considered a threat.

Reporting from Washington — Governors across the country have received letters from a quasi-religious, anti-government group ordering them to step down from office in three days, in what the group's website said was the first step to disband parts of the U.S. government.

Homeland Security Department and FBI officials said Friday that there didn't appear to be an immediate threat, and they were investigating whether the message could be considered dangerous.

The Guardians of the Free Republics describes its plan as a nonviolent and legal attempt to "restore the true Republic."

The office of Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, one of at least 30 governors to receive the letter, beefed up security. "We just decided that it was appropriate to err on the side of caution," said Lynn Hettrick, Gibbons' deputy chief of staff.

Officials in that state closed all but one entrance to Capitol and added metal detectors. Governors in Michigan, Virginia, Louisiana and Utah are among those who reported receiving the letter. Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm's office issued a statement Friday naming the group and said state police were notified last week of the "threatening letters." The document was turned over to federal authorities.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has not received the letter, said a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol, which is charged with the governor's safety. The CHP would not discuss whether changes were made to the governor's security detail.

The Guardians of the Free Republics appears to emphasize the peaceful nature of its proposed revolution. The group believes that an act of Congress passed in the late 1800s in effect transformed the United States into a corporation, Hall said. Since then, he said, the American people have been serving corporate masters.

The Federal Reserve...?

No, check the earlier threads about this; the website is run by a talk show host in Texas, name of Sam Kennedy.

Say, it occurs to me that MAYBE this whole "threat" is a total disinfo campaign, and the reason it's being pushed is because the Feds want to draw attention away from the poverty stricken young members of the rural Hutaree --- who the nation at large does NOT seem particularly afraid of.

Have you read the other threads about Sam Kennedy?

He's real SCARY, too; NOT.

Anything like this should start at the federal level.

It’s not us, just a wacko group with a similar name...I hope.

Could you imagine what would happen if the MSM tries to connect us with them.

I was referring to the kooks who named their group the “Guardians of the Free Republic.” Doesn’t it strike you as strange these crackpots should invoke the name of the world’s premiere site for liberty? Sounds like another Dem smear plot to me.

Clive Boustred is an even better name to associate with this, although Sam Kennedy is certainly the front man in this stunt.

Guardians of the Free Republics: An Astroturf Militia - Mother Jones

Turns out goftr.com and guardiansofthefreerepublics.com are registered to one Clive Boustred of Soquel, California- a British-educated former South African soldier with an apparent knack for "anti-terrorist warfare," computer consulting, and conspiracy theorizing. The sites - and the "group" - appear not to have existed before he registered them, about two months ago.

Even as conspiracy mavens go, Boustred is a fascinating study. He's prominent on YouTube as a decrier of Jesuit, Masonic, Rothschild, and Fed conspiracies. As with many such folks, his anti-courts, anti-government anger appears to have originated with a personal legal beef - a weird story involving an ex-wife, infidelity, a restraining order, an "assassination attempt," and chocolate-chip cookies. He appears to have Astroturfed a number of other "companies" and organizations - Liberty for Life, Copper Cards, Strategize.com, and InfoTelesys.com.

Sam Kennedy doesn't appear to be a Dem; but I don't know about the actual OWNER of the specific web domain; I'll find his name and post it later on, after running errands.

In my opinion -- any netizen would be tempted to use the phrase "Free Republic" and/or its plural form, "Free Republics" simply because of the gargantuan rise in hits that one would receive.

If you will notice that all the governors who have actually received these letters have been ones who are....

1. Governors of states who are suing the federal government over Obamacare.

2. Strong Republican governors who have stated that they will assert the states 10th amendment rights.

3. Governors who might pose a "threat" to the Obamamessiah in 2012.

That is all you really need to know to figure out that these actions are little more the the acts of Corruptocrat Marxist agent provocateurs who chose the name of their "organization" to imply that people who read or post to the Free Republic website are behind it.

We will all see more of the kind of stuff that has transpired over the last couple weeks as the year goes on. The Corruptocrats are running scared and they are trying to shut down and stifle "We The People" before it gets to a situation that they can not handle. Their increasingly desperate actions and screeching out of their MSM propaganda wing and their moonbat nutroot Orcs and Trolls indicates to me that they know that the "tipping point" has been reached and they are hurtling off the cliff into the abyss. They are hoping that their desperate scrambling and grasping will give them some sort of foothold to avoid dropping into the abyss and crawling back up the cliff.

It may sound and smell like a smear plot but the actions are what we should watch.

I see a public positive view on this, they sound nice and properly motivated.Doing what needs to be done in the right manner.

The real question of course is this, who is backing them, is it an Obama instilled idea to make them out as the “BOOGEYMAN” so as to make the Dumb American think of as Tea Party, and Free Republic are connected to this group?

If this is an Obama created group then he has plans for them to go disastrously rogue all across America and then he has the reasons for martial law and no more elections.

If the marxist communistic planners had the time and patience to fool America into electing Obama they have the resources to plan a fake Republic defense force.

Germans wearing American GI uniforms anyone?

But then again this group could actually be what they say they are, defenders of the Constitution.
