Imam issues fatwa on Senegal's "monument of shame"
By Diadie Ba
DAKAR (Reuters) - A leading imam on Friday issued a fatwa condemning Senegal's monument to the "African Renaissance" in the latest blow to President Abdoulaye Wade's project, a day before its inauguration.
Slightly bigger than New York's Statue of Liberty, the giant group of man, woman and infant is perched on a hill overlooking the Senegalese capital Dakar and will be formally unveiled before foreign dignitaries and celebrities on Saturday.
The $28-million statue has been criticised as a waste of money in a country with crumbling infrastructure and welfare provision, while Muslims have branded it "un-Islamic" for presenting the human form as an object of worship.
"We have issued a fatwa urging Senegal's imams this Friday to read the holy Koran in the mosques simply to ask Allah to preserve us from the punishment this monument of shame risks bringing on Senegal," imam Massamba Diop told followers at his central Dakar mosque, using the term for a religious ruling.

i’m with ya’ on this one but there are some imams who don’t subscribe to globalism they see this statue as a threat to their own domain irregardless of islamo-marxism/fascism (wow i hope i got this one right)but that’s what i’m seeing it’s not about the clothing items on the statue
About 30 heads of state are set to attend the inauguration on Saturday, along with the US civil rights activist, Jesse Jackson.
So that is what Jesse has been up to.
Is there any way for him to extort money from these people? That might be a challenge.
The statue, built by North Korean workers, has been mired in controversy from the outset.
Some were angered by Mr Wade's proposal that he would personally take 35% of the revenue it generated as it was his idea.
Jesse was probably acting as a "consultant" and hoping to skim off some of that money.
If I’m reading this correctly, we have $70 Million in aid budgeted for this “hole” in 2010. Looks to me like they don’t need it.

If they give aid money to Senegal, local pols would take a cut and NK would take a cut by working on another useless project, which would be recycled back to Pyongyang to bankroll missile/nuke project or buy BMW’s for aging marshals and vice marshals.
