Just a little distortion here. Switzerland was in tight with Nazi Germany. Switzerland has sheltered many of the criminal elements’ monies over the years and continues along these lines.

Having no foreign military adventures in centuries has saved them trillions. They have a good defense just no outlay on endless wars.

It would be ideal to live in Switzerland and winter in Hawaii - just bring a lot of suntan lotion and Liberal Repellant to Hawaii.

"In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

- Orson Wells in The Third Man

It’s a famous movie line, but they did produce Leonhard Euler, Daniel Bernoulli, and a tennis player named Federer. Apart from the cuckoo clock, Swiss inventions include rayon, cellophane, velcro, and the scanning tunneling microscope. Evidently peace and democracy don’t absolutely prevent great achievements.

I agree - I spent a year in Australia and New Zealand and absolutely loved it. I would move to the South Island of New Zealand if I had to, but I love my home town in Washington State and am willing to fight to keep it rural and me free.
