SPRINGFIELD - Mark Kirk is adding a dose of realism to his opposition to the recently signed national health care reform.
The Chicago-area congressman and GOP candidate for U.S. Senate said he still is opposed to much of the law aimed at overhauling the nation's health care system.
But Kirk is backing away from his pledge to lead the fight to repeal the plan.
"We lost, and we don't have the votes," Kirk said Thursday in Springfield. "And so now my job is to tell the American people exactly what is (in) this bill in terms of new taxes and cuts to seniors who depend on Medicare. And then to go forward, hopefully as your senator, and have some of these taxes not in place, have some of these cuts not in place."
Earlier this month, Kirk pledged to an audience at a political event that he would repeal the law in 2013, before most of the new changes would take effect.

Hon. Mark Kirk
Republican Candidate
United States Senator
The City Club of Chicago welcomes
Hon. Mark Kirk
on Monday, May 10, 2010
for a Public Policy Luncheon.
Rep. Kirk has been my congressman for nine years. He’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-spending increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge. He’s been more liberal than many Democrats, most of the time that he’s been in Congress.
I agree. If Kirk wants my vote, he’ll need to agree with most of the republican platform. Now, he agrees with most of the democrat platform.
That way we can kick your ass to the curb once and for all.
Mark Kirk: “And so now my job is to tell the American people exactly what is (in) this bill in terms of new taxes and cuts to seniors who depend on Medicare.”
NOW??? NOW???
Now, it’s his job to tell the American people exactly what’s in the bill???????
NOW??? NOW???
As if that wasn’t ALREADY HIS JOB!!!!! What happened to doing this BEFORE the bill was enacted into law????
What a Crock of hooooey! And this is the Candidate that Republicans are putting up against Giannoulias. And if Giannoulias wins, the Republicans will try to blame the Tea Parties, 9/12ers, Campaign for Liberty, the Constitution Party, the Libertarian Party FOR SPLITTING THE VOTE, instead of taking the blame for giving us such a crook to vote for, expecting us to put on our gas masks just so we can overcome the stench of voting for this.
This is the candidate that the Republicans want us to vote for? What complete stupidity!!!! And the reason? To keep
The Republican Party gives us John McCain and then wonders why Obama was elected. What stupidity. If the Republican Party and the cult that follows it, want people to vote for their candidate, MAYBE THEY SHOULD GIVE US A CANDIDATE WE CAN VOTE FOR!!!!!! In stead, they want us to hold our noses and vote for the lesser of two evils and then cry foul when the other candidate wins.
Pathetic!
All I’ve got to say is that the longer you stay complacent and keep voting for the left wing and the right wing of the same bird flying the wrong direction, this country will continue to spiral down to its destruction!!!!
It’s time to vote in another party, just the way the Republicans became a party in 1860. It has been done before. It can, correction, IT MUST BE DONE AGAIN!! IF was are going to save this state and this nation it’s time to replace both the Republicans and the Democrats with candidates who not only know the Constitution, but will conduct themselves accordingly.
PhilCollins,
your congress criminal is not unique.
Show up in whatever forum he is at and yell questions to his sorry ass.
Pro choice? So you support the murder of the unborn?
HOw are you going to react when you come home early and find some old queen trying to seduce your teen age son?
Etc.Time to get in their faces. Make em nervous.
I didn’t mean that one to be a reply to chet...
I was trying to respond directly to the article.
Sorry Chet. Meant no offense.
That is a good idea, expect for the part about Rep. Kirk’s kid. He doesn’t have any kids. I heard that he’s gay, but I’m not sure that’s correct. He was married for eight years.
If that exact same piece of socialist legislation attracted the support of 60% of Americans, Kirk would have been the first in line to champion it and bash all Republicans who oppose it as mean-spirited and uncaring.
Kirk has no intention of working to repeal Obamacare, let alone lead the effort. Thats why Mark Kirk was the only Illinois Republican NOT to sign a letter asking Lisa Madigan to block it from being foisted on Illinois citizens. Anyone who sincerely believes Kirk is adamently against Obamacare needs to ask themselves why Kirk hasnt lifted a finger to lead the repeal of it.
MARK KIRK IS A...
Democrat In All But Label Only
Just like the blue dog Dems, Kirk many occasionally cast a token "conservative" vote when such a position helps him in the public opinion polls... but he'll fall back in line and do Pelosi & Obama's bidding if they need his vote to pass their Marxist agenda.
I live in the People's Socialist RepubliK of Illannoyed, and I called Kirks' office on Wednesday. I was very clear: Either Mark Kirk runs on repealing ObamaCare and cutting Government Spending back to fiscal year 2000 levels, or he can count on NOT getting my vote.
They're getting an earful in his office, the woman who answered the phone says that the majority of the calls they're getting are to REPEAL ObamaCare, why the panty-waste Kirk won't run on that platform ... .well, he's a liberal.
I’ve lived in Kirk’s district for eight years. I emailed him, four times, and I asked him why he’s a Republican, although he’s pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control, pro-spending increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge. I didn’t receive an answer, so I emailed four of his aides, including Eric Elk, his chief of staff, and I asked them why Kirk is a Republican. I didn’t receive a response.
OMG It’s gonna be tough to vote for this guy in november .
