Tetelestai (Greek)
... doesnt translate simply, we have to make a phrase out of it - “It is finished”
Tetelestai = the most powerful word in history
The word tetelestai was also written on business documents or receipts in New Testament times to show indicating that a bill had been paid in full. The Greek-English lexicon by Moulton and Milligan says this: Receipts are often introduced by the phrase [sic] tetelestai, usually written in an abbreviated manner
IT IS FINISHED
Not sure why you responded to me for this. I agree completely.
I used to be Mormon and the LDS often think that Christ’s payment for sin (in the Garden not the Cross) makes him our creditor. Not only does that go against the Bible and the word Tetelestai, it also insults Christ and His sacrifice.
Easter week is especially meaningful for me now, as a Christian, because of my background and now I know that Christ suffered and died on the cross, not so I could ‘pay him back’ but because only He could make any payment in the first place!
And having several years of Greek, I am well aware of the Greek usages of the term.
It is finished!
Have a blessed Good Friday and Easter.
