SANTA ANA, Calif. A judge on Tuesday sentenced serial killer Rodney Alcala to death before hearing emotional testimony from the families of four women and a 12-year-old girl he strangled in the 1970s.
The sentence was announced three weeks after a jury recomended death for the 66-year-old Alcala, who was convicted last month of five counts of first-degree murder after a bizarre and sometimes surreal trial.
After the sentencing, Bruce Barcomb, the brother of victim Jill Barcomb, begged Alcala to admit to the murders to help family members heal.
"There is murder and rape and then there is the unequivicable carnage of a Rodney Alcala-style murder," he said. "Give up your debt Rodney: all victims, all states, all occurences. Own your truth."

And a firing squad with poor marksmanship skills (but lots of ammo).
A California death sentence? He may as well have sentenced him to 50 straight years of hopscotch. That sentence would have a greater chance of actually being carried out.

A Kalifornia judge imposes the death penalty??
Started killing after his date refused to go out with him after winning “The Dating Game”..

I'm guessing he wasn't picked. People never realize how close they come to pure evil.
California has more people on death row than any other state, and falls in about the middle of the pack in carrying them out.
Oh, all the time. Getting the sentence isn’t the problem. Getting it enforced, specifically getting the courts to let the state enforce it, is the problem.
So, he was picked. The gal seems a bit much so I wonder what it was that caused her to turn down the date.
He’s got a David Hasselhoff thing going on there, ick.
Maybe, but probably not. He tried to kill a young girl in 1968, but when the police showed up he ran out the back door and disappeared for three years, living in New York and teaching art at a summer camp. The law caught up to him in 1971, but he was pronounced cured by psychiatrists and released in 1974. Not long after his release, he was caught with another underage girl who said she'd been kidnapped. He did another two years and was released, heading to New York where he's been linked to some disappearances. So he may well have been kiling before the Dating Game, but they just haven't proven it.
She later told police he was "creepy"
No, that girl survived, although only barely. She testified in the penalty phase of his trial a couple of weeks ago.
imposition of the death penalty in CA is easy - carrying it out, well, that’s another story.
He actually was “picked”, but the woman then refused to go out with him. Lucky girl.
They heard from the ‘12 year old girl he strangled’?
oh excuse me, they heard testimony from the families of...
You are correct. I had forgotten that she survived.
